Bill James Best Players

Is this list available anywhere, or do I have to purchase the book?

1986 (I believe) historical baseball abstract he goes through every position. Although, it is a bit out of date.

I'm not sure if it's in any of the newer ones.

I'm actually about to order the 2005 one.

The latest historical baseball abstract (before 2001 season) has it

I haven't looked for it, since I have the book.

By the way, you really should have the book - not just for the list.

I was thinking that, just annoyed by shipping (I'm an impatient bastard), and I wasn't sure which of the many I should buy.

You're impatient, but you're in no hurry to actualy go get the book. Hmmm.

By the way, there aren't any bookstores in the Bay area?

You'd be surprised. I live in a suburb a couple hours from SF. The closest major bookstores are a half hour away and they replaced both bookstores in the mall with f*cking clothes stores. It's a travesty.

Well, go Montréal suburbs, where one can easily find baseball books, then.

Thanks for the link, I'll get this one. I still check my mailbox every day like a little kid when I have something ordered.

Yeah definitely get the book.

By the way, anyone know the difference because the newest one and the one previous to that? Aside from the obvious updated player rankings.

Not really sure which books you're referring to, but the 2005 version that was referenced earlier in the thread is most likely The 2005 Bill James Handbook which only includes ACTIVE players. The New Bill James Historical Abstract, published circa 2001, is exactly what the name says, a historical abstract, not just active players. Now if you're referring to the historical abstract James published prior to the one in 2001, good luck finding that. James' last abstracts were published during the 1980s and all out of print as far as I know.
