CatoQuestion: How to edit stuff in a .MDB file?

I'm using OOTP 6.11 and Cato 6.14. I've got a fantasy fictional league. But I did something wrong, and I wonder how to fix it.

In my league, between the 1938 and 1939 seasons, I moved a team from Providence (PRP) to Jacksonville (JAC). I made the appropriate association between the new abbreviation and old under the Edit:Team Info menu. And when I look at my pages, the team history for Jacksonville includes the past several years for Providence as well. All this is good.

But I did something out of sequence. I guess when I held the 1939 draft, I hadn't yet changed the team city and abbreviation in OOTP. So players were officially drafted by Providence in 1939, but played for Jacksonville.

Now according to my Cato HTML output, Jacksonville drafted NOBODY in 1939, and there is no place to list Providence draft picks for the same year. In fact, in the 1939 Draft Index, the 7th pick of each round is just absent from the list.

I tried to open the MDB file with Excel (I don't have Access -- do I need that?), and saw that error. I saw the missing draft picks, and that they were Providence picks. But I don't know how to edit this information and change it.

Can I fix this? How? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Yeah, I took a class at the local college (spanish) even though I have a degree - just so I could pick up software on the cheap. Had to get Office XP Pro, great product. Access is a powerful programming tool and easy to use once you get used to the terminology. I would recommend anyone using CATOBASE or lahman database to get ACCESS and perhaps Visual Basic. Create your own apps using databases already populated. Possibilities are endless....

So the Access components used by Catobase are strictly used by Catobase and only a portion of the program itself. Do I gather that correctly? Also, in relation to OOTP, and obviously Catobase, can you give me an example of one of those endless possibilities? Thanks in advance.

You will need access to make the changes to the database.

Another option to rebuild the data would be to open Catobase delete the current year (back to 1938). Then copy all the files in the DATA\1939\ to the DATA directory. edit the CSV files team files to the new abbreviation and rerun CATOBASE with the Exporter option on the first screen not checked. This will rebuild 1939 with the correct abbreviations and draft choices. If you are into 1940 then you will need to do this process with each group of files.

Hope this helps!
