Great Players injuried early in career
This is an all computer managed sim. I happen to notice this guy in the career listing. I think someone lost a future Hall of Famer here. Career ending injury while running the basepaths. Ouch.
Here is a link to his stats. http://www.larrypc.com/30/p1635.html Anyone else every have one look that good and then go Herb Score on ya?

Not CEI, but I had one the one time who had a SEI in the first game of the year, which was bad enough.
Had a great name, too. Milan Noble.

I lost Ernie Banks after less than 200 ABs to a CEI.

I don't think he was going to be a Hall-of-Famer. The numbers look good, but he didn't start playing until he was 30.
There's no way he was getting into the Hall on his power numbers, and even 2,000 hits would be a long shot (he'd have to keep averaging 200 hits for the next seven seasons, until he was 40); 3,000 hits was an impossibility. He may have been one of the great players of his day. And he would have had a definite shot at the hall if he had started earlier. But when it's all said and done, the numbers just wouldn't justify a trip to Cooperstown. |

This may be off-topic since it doesn't involve OOTP or even baseball, but it's one I'll always remember...
Playing Sierra's FBPro series, my Oakland team had the #1 overall pick and there was an absolute STUD in the draft for QB. I drafted him, traded whatever QB Oakland had that year (used real rosters) and anxiously waited to see his career pan out. First game he threw about 20 passes and then had a CEI. Very crushing.

Had one tonight. One of two players in my solo league that were "once or twice a generation" quality players. Guess it's down to one now.

http://www.myfilebucket.com/u/endgame/gomezseve285.html Somebody's going to have to post some instructions for me, so that one day I can display these in a better fashion. Anyway, Gomez. He really is a player like I haven't had to contend with in my OOTP career. Too bad his team has not won a championship for about seven years. That may all change this year. They're in the divisional playoffs now. Edited:corrected championship information. Last edited by endgame; 01-01-2005 at 05:30 AM. |
