News Suggestion

In OOTP7, I would like to see a more expanded and interesting news sections:

1. It would be nice to see major trades shown in the news.

2. In some of the previous OOTP versions, there was a "ticker" at the bottom of the page that displayed neat stats for the week. I really enjoyed that, but it is no longer available in OOTP6.

3. It would be nice to have the league transaction report split up, so I don't have to see all the free agency moves, trades, and waiver movement. Right now, the report is very long and takes a bit of time to generate. Sometimes I'm just interested in trades, and would like to just see a report showing the trades; other times I might just want to know who was put on waiver, etc.

4. It would be cool to have more "unique" stories, somewhat like PureSims has. For instance, I saw a PureSims news story on the league leaders in Triples, then one on the League pitches with most complete games. Every week there is a story with some interested fact. I think this would be a neat feature in OOTP too.

Well, new stories and reports would be better.

I would really like a trade news for big-name players. Just like in Baseball Mogul.

Numbers 1, 3, and 4 are right on the money for me. The news section is the weakest spot in the game right now, and these suggestions would improve it vastly. Number 2 is more cosmetic, and I can live with or without it, but the other three are really big items for me. I like to get that total immersion experience, and the news section is the area that can help with that the most.

Wow, great ideas. I love the Trades idea where the game reconizes them and post them in the news section!

This item has been brought up for as long as I've known about OOTP. I truly hope it gets the attention we want and the expanded focus the game deserves.

News on Playoff races down the stretch would be sweet. But it all ties in with his suggestion in a way and i am all for it. Hopefully it can be worked in somehow..

Ultimately, what I would like is to have news templates. That way users can write their own situation-dependent stories and have them show up at the right times. Can you imagine the enormous number of news stories we could put together if a bunch of us contributed?

This probably won't happen, but I like to dream.

Wouldnt take no time at all. Would be a great feature. Hopefully something like that gets looked into atleast.

I would LOVE to see news stories included in OOTP, but it honestly takes a back seat to:

- More detailed contracts
- Three-team trades
- Draft pick compensation
- More realistic arbitration
- Better base-stealing
- Hiring/Firing of Managers

But if all of those are taken care of in the next version, I'm all for news stories, especially for big trades and free agent signings.

I know I might seem like I'm always quoting you, but the truth is you're a quotable person and this idea is great.

We could have editable parameters for what our custom newstory would cover.

For example, if the guy is a 90 rated player, fan favorite, and has top 10 stats as of July and he gets traded for a couple of prospects not in the top 100 then it would generate my, "What are the Pirates doing?" newstory.

We could set every one of those things and then some. And since it would be dependent on what the engine already recognizes (even something as little as the first letter of the last name being a Z) we could have an endless amount of possible newstories that we can create and then put up for download (with the ability to edit them if someone has grammatical errors or we prefer that the player be an 85 overall to generate that newstory).

What I would like to see in News Section like they have in Eastside Hockey Manager is Rumor Mill to tell you what trades are rumored to be happening and where the free-agent might sign!
For hiring I would like to see in the news section these are the people you are going to interview for that job that is available and for firing in the News Section who was fired espically on Black Monday!
Team News needs to be replaced with the teams local newspaper!
Also in News Section on December 17 or some other day and 20 it would say that a team like the Dodgers Non-Tenerded Alex Cora making him a free-agent and have the option to resign them as a free-agent intill sometime in January or can't resign them intill May
Who has declared to become a free-agent
No trade Clause
Wavier Trade rule if you put somebody on waviers in August if he is claimed then a trade will have to happen
Relocation like in Season Ticket Basketball because say the Marlins apply for a new stadium in Miami and dosen't get approved they could move to Las Vegas or Orlando and it would tell when they are moving and this can happen with a teams Spring Training stadium if a team wants to switch stadium with another team like lets say the Braves-Cracker Jack Stadium switch with the Marlins spring training home they can or switch from the Grapefruit league to the Cactus league they could

Hell, I think it would take forever! Imagine all the different situations you would have to cover.

I'd rather have a group of contributors (board members?) working together on a mod than have to do it all myself. Then you could download a certain era-specific news file or one that has the amount of depth you want.
