Drafts in Historic League

After searching threads all day and all night, I still have some questions on rookies and L/R splits:
1) In league set up->Number of Draft Rounds its set at 10, does this number matter if you are importing rookies from the DB? How many rookies will be imported, and if its only like three rounds worth of historic rookies will OOTP create fictional rookies to allow for a 10 round draft?

2) Left/Right Splits - I agee with Steve Kuffrey that players ratings already reflect how they perform vs LHP/RHP, but if you import rookies every year does this mean if you don't do random splits there will never be a player who does better or worse vs a LH or RH pitcher?

3) Also, this new rookie pool, is it made up of players who were hitorically drafted that year and went through the minors or will these be ready to play players - i.e. from their first MLB rookie year?

1) It will always import all the rookies, no matter how many rounds you have it set to, but it will only run the draft for as many rounds as you have selected. So, even if 300 guys debuted in a year, the draft will only go for that many rounds, and the rest will be signable free agents. If you have more rounds selected than players eligible for the draft, the draft will end after the last player is selected.

2) From my experience, yes, but I have only tried it maybe once or twice ever without random splits, so I'm not sure.

That makes things different in a historical league than in a purely fictional league, because many of the incoming draft class will be major league ready. Your drafting philosophy has to be different. I've also found that this helps with league parity, because the worst handful of teams nearly always are able to draft someone who can step right in and be an everyday productive player. Very rarely will you find 'busts' in the top 10 picks, because their ratings are already developed.

A while back, someone was working on a version of the database that would have players entering in their actual draft years. I would imagine that that is quite a project, so I wouldn't blame someone for not finishing it.

I was actually wondering about that status of that yesterday. As I recall that person had some sort of beta version done. Maybe I'll have some fun with the search menu in the mods forum and see what I can find.

I was actually thinking of something from further back (like 2 years ago), but this is basically the same idea.
