Advice - Creating Hoyt Wilhelm style relief ace usage

Howdy,

I'm wondering if anyone has run fictional historical sims in the post war era and had success in recreating Hoyt Wilhelm style relief usage _and_ quality.

It seemed that annually in the late 40s and on into the 50s (and beyond), there would be some top reliever eating a boatload of IP while pitching well. Some examples:

Joe Page 1947
56 G, 141.1 IP, 2.48 ERA

Ted Wilks 1948
57 G, 130.2 IP, 2.62 ERA

Joe Page 1949
60 G, 135.1 IP, 2.59 ERA

Jim Konstanty 1950
75 G, 152.0 IP, 2.66 ERA

Ellis Kinder 1951
63 G, 127.0 IP, 2.55 ERA

Hoyt Wilhelm
1952 - 71 G, 159.1 IP, 2.43 ERA
1953 - 68 G, 145.0 IP, 3.04 ERA
1954 - 57 G, 111.1 IP, 2.10 ERA

I'm wondering if anyone has replicated this type of thing when purly SIMing.

If so, what type of pitcher do you look for in that spot, as in ratings and endurance?

How do set your starter usage? I suspect an Ace pitcher is still allowed to go long, but your marginal starters or ones with weaker endurance are under pitch counts.

Where do you slot your Hoty? Seems that if he's *just* in the closer slot, the computer AI might not go to him in the 7th and instead go with a weaker set-up or middle reliever.

Just looking for any general advice. I'm a big fan of that type of reliever in the era, but just don't know what to look for in that type of pitcher, or how to config it.

Thanks,

John

I got Eric Gange to go 130-140 innings a year in Modern League, but I don't have the file anymore. Set him as Middle 1, Setup 1, and Closer.

I'd be intrested in settings as well. As someone that is in a league where my team is starter light and relief heavy. I want to be able to force my starters to be gone come the sixth and have my (very good) releivers take over. The Q is how to force the AI to do so.
