Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers
This is a great book if you want to know "what kinds of pitches" each historical pitcher threw. You could then edit each of their player cards with the right pitches. In my 50s/60s replay I've had to edit the "knuckballers" that I knew about, but there are lots of pitchers that I wouldn't have a clue what pitches they threw.

Its a huge reference. Has virtually any relevant pitcher, including Sid Finch..
![]() The only problem was the splurge of teens era deadball pitchers that throw spitters, plus Gaylord Perry.. I wouldn't be sure what to qualify such a pitch as.. sort of a slider, fastball, change rolled into one. The game doesn't apparently allow for the 'legal' era of spitters, shineballs, etc. Same with variant pitches, cutters, circle-change, forkball (not the same as splitter), etc. Not that it would seem to be really important, aside from play-by-play. Knuckleball seems to be the only significant pitch. Screwballs I think should add to injury proneness, if they don't already (I haven't noticed any without manually changing things) |
