Unhappy Please help!

I'm pretty frustrated about our very important rating on CNET download.com
We're got reviews by players who either wanted a complete 3D engine to watch the fights probably with the original faces of the fighters, or persons who wanted to have 100% realistic results but let a female fighter fight against Frazier

Please, if you got a minute, please visit download.com and give TB a better rating at http://www.download.com/Title-Bout-C...ml?tag=lst-0-1

Every positive rating will be much appreciated and will help me to get rid of my current depression

Amazing seeing some of the negative comments. Obviously from people who are under the impression that a game needs fancy graphics to be worthy. We need to support this by giving ratings from a fans perspective, and for rating the game in relation to it's genre. It takes less then 2 minutes to sign up for C-Net and the game deserves a better evaluation from those who know it best.

one of them says it is the 'championship manager of boxing'. What the hell? This isn't even a management game!

I went in to give it my most positive review. (Thanks for the $5 Andreas). They said it would appear with 2 to 4 days. It also said it was version 1.3.

I go back a couple of hours later to check to see if it's been posted and there is no TBCB 1.3 listed. It's now TBCB 1.9 listed with no reviews and no rating.

My question, if anyone knows, is to I do my review again or do they bring the 1.3 reviews across?

I'm not a boxing fan, nor do I play TBCB, but if I were looking for a boxing game, seeing someone call it the "championship manager of boxing", I'd consider that game very highly. TBCB might not be a management game, but Championship Manager is the absolute pinnacle of football (soccer) sims.

I'm sure similar like-minded baseball game players would say the same about OOTPB. Those of us who enjoy the subtleties of text based sims are a much more intelligent bunch than those that are only looking for eye candy.

Did you doubt me? Shame on you!

I put my 3 cents in again and am waiting for it to appear. (It was only going to be 2 cents, but I went the extra penny).

Calling something the "championship manager of" is a big accolade IMO.

I would go rate, but I'm sick and tired of signing up for about 10 sites a day just to do one thing. Any smart person can see from reviews whether people are dickheads or not. And anyone who believes reviews without making up their own mind is a narrow minded shagwit anyway

Well, Gentlemen
Its great to hear you all giving support to Andrea's, Jim and Tom and the rest of the people who contributed into making this game to our minds an almost perfect simulation of a sport we all here love. Myself i also go along with you. If i posted just these remarks and left it at that, i am sure my posting would be well received by the members of this board. But then in the long run that is no good or any help to Andrea's and Co.

Now take a step back, and look at it from a different point of view.
On here we are all members of a sort of elite group, in fact in the real world of computer gaming we are in love with a sport that is no longer in favour with the buying public.

Download.com does not consist of just boxing lovers, so don't expect the same adulation's and praise to given to our little game. The people away from this forum have a choice in a very competitive market to spend there hard earned 40$ or 50$ on.

Today a lot buy state of the art computers a graphic card alone can cost you up to 600$ So to there minds they want and expect top class games with state of the art graphics and great game-play to go with it.

Now think of the competition away from our little narrow world and please remember we are now not just dealing with sports simulations in completing for the public dollars. We have Far Cry, Rome Total War, Doom3, Half Life, Call Of Duty, Pro Evolution Soccer 3, and so on. The comeback of course from most here would be, but were not EA or a major company with billions of dollars. But that in truth does not cut the ice when it comes to selling games. The perspective customer does not care about the company's assets, all he wants for his money is what he considers which game will give him the most enjoyment.

Now take our game, very appealing to us, and we understand the blurred pics are put there for a reason. The game is also in fact made better by Cubes pics of the real fighters and the graphics can of course be improved by downloading the clear pics. I would say these add-ons make the game jump up by maybe 10% alone.

The problem is, this is not what the average person sees when he downloads the demo. He sees a black figure representing a white fighter and visa versa. He also looks at the blurred pics of the fighters and thinks hey is this what i bought my top of the range computer to watch. Very quickly he will tire of this and pay out to buy some of the top games on the market instead.

Andrea's i have not wrote this to be negative but for food for thought for the next and future versions of our game. To appeal to the average gamer if you want to catch the average buyer we need to take a long hard look and although it goes against the grain to be very critical of our own product. In today's very competitive market where the paying customer has many choices where to spend his dollars. The Company needs to make sure our product as much as we can is more appealing to the average buyer and not just the dedicated boxing fans on here. A daunting task i will agree, but to expand and steer this Company in the right direction some of my points i feel need to be given at least some consideration.

I would tend to agree with much of what you said, however, one thing to consider is whether or not you want to dilute the game that you all love in order to bring in the volume.

Again, I'll mention that I'm not a boxing fan and I don't own the game. I'm primarily on this forum for OOTPB and the Off Topic section. I just thought I'd drop in to this thread when I saw the post about the game being compared to Championship Manager.

The same problem exists for any simulation of this kind. The market for the games that we all love the most is quite a bit smaller than the market for the flashier games. EA makes big money putting out pretty much the same game every year, with only graphical improvements and minor engine tweaks.

The sort of people who enjoy playing the flashy games with all the eye candy typically won't be interested in a detailed game that offers everything that the shiny graphic game can't. It's kind of a give and take.

Is it worth it to "dumb-down" the game in order to increase the fan base? I think not, and this is why. The games out there with all the fancy graphics are already at a rather advanced level. They have huge staffs working to put together the state of the art packages that they have now. A small group of independent developers will be VERY hard-pressed to come up with a product that can compete. I think that if they tried, they'd get much worse feedback than they are seeing now. I say keep up the good work and keep your product unique, that is the best selling point that they have.

There will always be people who enjoy the high tech graphic games who long for more behind the scenes. That is where you have your opportunity. All you need to do is help those people to find you!

Good post and good points Danny. The reality is (imo) that you will NEVER appeal to the average gamer. What is the average gamer?

Without trying to sound too insulting, the picture I have in my head (and I also imply it from your post) is that your average gamer is a moron. What's the big new release this week? Grand Theft Auto, that's what. Big seller. Let's all steal cars and kill people or whatever they do. Is that the average gamer? The people who play games like that are probably closer to your average gamer than the people who will play this.

It is futile to appeal to the average gamer. You need to reach out for the person with just a touch of interest in boxing and appeal to their sense of creativity and cleverness and history and imagination. To hell with the average guy. Don't go after them and don't bother. I think (and I may be mistaken) that Andreas point was not the average gamer would be discouraged by negative views, but that other gamer who we might find will be put off by the review of those people who posted the negative reviews because they are from the Grand Theft Auto crowd. (My apologies if any of the mostly fine people who frequent this forum play GTA).

I think, and I hope, that the people who are responsible for this game are not out to capture the average gamer. It's a losing battle. You must target the not-average gamer, the one who wants to play something different and something that requires imagination.

And that's my viewpoint.

I put in my opinion, however I cannot find where one can look at others opinions of the games or even find other scores. i was of course my unbiased self and rated it a life changing experience.
