University Baseball anyone?
Hey all
I've been scanning around the forums here and I have yet to see anyone come up with a league of tams for universities. So i've decided to look into starting up a league with teams based on the universities in Canada, since there's a lot less of them the US and no big names would be left out. So I'm posting here to see if anyone woudl be intrested in joining such a league. I'm also looking into using an ancestor model much like TWB (what can I say, I like how they did theirs), using Catobase, and starting in the 1920 or so. So if you like/hate/dont get the idea, give a shout with a post on this thread.

Would you lose players to graduation after four or five seasons? That would be an interesting challenge. How would you tweak player development to get it to work right?

Well with Canadian unis, it goes like this
Atlantic = 11 Quebec = 9 Ontario = 18 Western = 12 even with that setup its' going to be much mroe than will fit in OOTP the US to my recolection there's like 107 Division I teams (i'm going by football listings) so hence way too many to do in OOTP... ![]() with the Canadian ones I can probably get rid of a few new unis that have sprung up in the last 10 years or so. The US would be compeltely impossible.

will do.
the hard part will be to get players to retire after five years or so. I wonder if there's a way to force that

There was a US college baseball league not too long ago. It didn't last very long because everyone lost interest pretty much right away.

oh well. For this i'm going to see if I can get permission from the commish of TWB to see if I cna use his ancestor file, hopeuflly it'll put some intrest in the league. Havent really decided if I'm going to go down that route though. And if I cant get any GM's intrested, I'll jsut do a dynasty, either way, it'll be going up. Gotta run with a first of its' kind :d

The way to do it, rather than let the game decide, is just grant everyone 4 years of eligibility. They can spend a year in the minors (redshirt) if you so choose, it's easiest just to give them blanket 4. Players dropped off the roster get 'held' in FA in case the team needs them again.
To begin with, the long and arduos task begins with changing everyone's age to the same basic 1/1/190x. The idea is that you have 1/4 aged 19, 1/4 aged 20 etc. The season ends, and those that are going to hit 23, just before the offseason, they are retired with a CEI. With each draft class, make sure you change their birthdays. That way, you can see freshmen to seniors just by looking at their age on the transaction screen. So what then? Well, you need to muck about with the development factors. Just crank them up to 200, I'd hope, and maybe increase creation factors as well. This will require extensive simming. I've always mucked about with historical players, where they come ML-ready. That is the easiest. Worst comes to the worst, and you want to use fictional, change the real draftees names ![]() Hope this is some help. It's kind of whet my appetite to try again! |

Its a decent idea, but i don't know if it'll get enough interest especially with canadian schools. Good luck with it though. I hope Carleton U is listed

but then again there's a few folks ehre from the great white north, you never know as for your question yes the Carleton Ravens (I just found out thats' the team name last night) will be in it. I had to chop some of the schools off and I tried to do it evenly. I'll post how i'm organizing it, and go from there.

another though will be trading of players. Unlike in MLB or another league. Uni folks dont usually transfer from one school to another too often if I recall correctly

why dont you just let people pick the Uni they want to represent, and just work with those Uni's instead of all Canadian teams. You'd get alot more attention this way. I like the idea though. If you ever get it working, ill definately consider joining

Well right now i'd like to have all the teams filled, which with 40 teams will probably be impossible to do. (Unless I got a rash of PM intrest)
As of right now im jsut goign to run it as a dynasty. Seems to be going well other than not being able to run a draft (thing dies badly when yuo try), so I'll just manually add players to teams. If anyone is bored check out the links below it shows what's going on so far in the league
