New Lahman Database Out!

And there are a couple of very cool things I noticed. For one, there is a spreadsheet version. Everything in Excel files. For another - and this should make some things easier - the spreadsheet version includes a "career" sheet for both batters and pitchers, giving their total career stats. If you like manipulating the database like me, this removes a sometimes time-consuming step.

To my knowledge, these are new features, though perhaps I just overlooked them last year.

I've never messed with lahman much, I always used the roster sets, but will lahman give me 2005, possible rosters or will it make me start at 2004.

The database relies on past data, so you cannot have a league using it begin in an in-progress or future season.

Any year in history, post 1900. And you can call up any player in history with no year restrictions.

Nope. There was always a Comma-Delimted Text (.CSV) version, which Excel can open. But the .CSV format doesn't support multiple Excel worksheets or, um, any formatting whatsoever.
