Setting Finances for a Custom League
I mentioned this league in another thread, a new BBSC league being started up. It is a custom league based on 1901 with fictional players thrown in. We've simmed to 1904 and we're doing a fantasy draft.
I want all teams to start from the same financial base. Our base stadium is 30,000 seats. If a team wants more than that they have to pay for it. Our seasons are 100 games long. I edited the previous year's finances to show 1.5 million fans (a sellout in 50 home games), $15M in revenue ($10/ticket), $40M in broadcast and $10M in merchandising. Merchandising revenue is $10M. I set the television contracts as $25M nationally and $15M locally, both expiring in three years. That adds up to $70M. Market size and fan interest is average, fan interest rating is 65. The average league payroll in 1903 was $59 million. The best teams are going to need more than that, and teams that aren't among the best won't sell out. I figured the extra $10M would account for that. If you draw 20,000 fans at $10/ticket, you're going to break even with a $60M payroll. Any thoughts? Does it seem fair? Suggestions to make it better? The most important part of this league is money. Each team has an owner, a GM and a manager. The owner makes his money based on the team's financial performance, and has to pay out salaries to the managers. The money will come into play for buying and selling teams. I want the average profit to be $0.
