The Curse of A-Rod

Since curses are so real and everyone knows that they are completely the main reason that the Red Sox and Cubs and White Sox have gone so long without winning the World Series, do you think this will be a new one?

Do you think we'll start hearing about the curse of A-Rod if the Yankees tank next year or go a few years without getting to the World Series? Especially if the BoSox manage to win this year and another year shortly after it?

Are you ready to hear about it?

Before anyone picks Alex Rodriguez they should pick Jason Giambi or Mike Mussina.

Clearly Boston can only win a World Series in the first two decades of each century. So be ready for a slew of more titles in the next 15 years followed by another curse.

The reason for A-Rod over Giambi or Mussina has to do with the Ruth myth, or rather something of a reversal of it. The Red Sox pine for A-Rod, do what they can to get him, then lose out to the Yankees. But the curse goes with him. It's got much more potential for mythdom than Giambi or Mussina, whose moves to the Yankees weren't surrounded by much controversy and didn't involve the high profile (and high salary levels) of A-Rod.

Tino Martinez is a better example. He gets thrown out of town for Giambi.....and it's been downhill since then.

I don't think so. No Red Sox connection. That's the key.

that doesn't matter. The so called curse on the Red Sox is that they can't win the W.S. Not that they couldn't beat NY.

Yeah, I'm curious. How long did it actually take for the Red Sox to get the 'Curse' label?

The funny part is the White Sox don't have a "curse" yet they're the team with the most "realistic" probablility for a curse. The Cubs haven't won because of a goat. The Red Sox haven't won because of a bad trade (well, sale, actually). The White Sox haven't won a World Series sine 1917. In 1919 eight players were banned from baseball for throwing the World Series. I think if any team would deserve a curse, it'd be the franchise that nearly ruined the sport entirely.

Of course, the national media still isn't aware the White Sox exist so I don't see how they could come up with a curse for them.

I think the White Sox "curse" is better refered to as Karma.

Is there any wrse thing than being a White Sox fan? Not only do you never win, but no one cares, because the Cubs are in the same town. *

*This post made in jest.

It's not about how long I think. More about how well the sports media can hype it.

I knew a White Sox fan who very much felt that there is a Black Sox Curse. In fact, it was his contention that the city of Chicago actually suffers from it, not just the White Sox.
