No ratings or talents displayed.. :)
I'm trying my hand at playing the game with ratings and talents turned off, and 1-5 on defense/speed - for a true challenge.
![]() However, I find the inital draft is.. well.. impossible? ![]() An idea for the future.. it'd be nice to have the initial draft players show previous playing stats, like the high school and college boys do in the amateur draft. Have them come from some random leagues (Pacific Coast, Cape Cod, Carolina, independent, Puero Rican, Mexican, etc) with various difficulty levels.. it'd be nice to have to pick based on what we think their talents would be based on their age and previous couple years rather than turning talents on just for the initial draft - thus lessening the challenge.. Anyone else have any input or experience on playing without talents and ratings? (s) GREAT game by the way.. played OOTP 2 quite a few years ago and had a blast.. got away from the baseball sim world until Shaun Sullivan over at PureSim baseball (www.puresim.com) gave great reviews about this game a few days ago and encouraged us to check it out. I did, and I bought it within minutes.

I play the same way, and usually sim ahead a few years and take over a bottom-of-the-barrel club. Great fun to rebuild, I think -- and you get some stats for reference.
Your idea is a fine one, though. Take care...

What I always did ws turn 1-5 ratings on for ratings/talents for the ammy draft, then turn them back off once Im done.
By the end of the first season a lot of ratings will be a lot different anyways, and its not like your'll remember most of them anyways. |

I control all the teams in my 3 leagues and turn on the ratings for the draft and then turn them off during the season. However, I do leave the 1-5 (others ratings scale) on the League Setup page on all the time for speed, stealing, fielding pct, arm and range. I just go by performance and it works well for me. I use the Draft Report to make my picks for each team. I don't use scouting reports.
I play a very simple solo league...no financials and no minors...I create my own Major League ready rookies and vets for the draft each year. That way I can have some productive players ages 18-25 in my league...which are missing from OOTPB for the most part. |

There are two good solutions I've used. One is to turn on just the star ratings, since they don't tell you much anyway. The other is to let the AI do the initial draft for you and set the initial lineups and rotation. That way you're on a level playing field with the computer.
Actually, turning on some 1-5 rating might be a bit better than stars, since then at least you know what guys hit for power or average and what not.
