Commish Apprecation Thread
I'm surprised there isn't one of these out here already...
Anyways, I just got this idea last night, and I think it would be pretty cool. If you've ever been in a league where the Commish was a nice, down to earth kinda guy, someone that you could relate to or someone who went the extra mile for you or for the league...post about it here. This would serve two purposes, 1) it would let your Commish know that you appreciate all his hard work 2) it would promote his league/yours if you are in it as well. I'd like to start off by talking about one of the leagues I'm in called SMLB. Chip, the Commish, the league started as a 2003 league and is now in it's 5th year (2008). He's a great guy, easy to talk. In fact, just last night we talked for atleast an hour, just about random things. Girls, cars, PC's, OOTP, the usual. This is a top quality for a Commish, because it makes him seem not like the authority figure. He listens to propositions from the league owners about OOTP and other ways to run the league. So I just want to say, "Thanks Chip." And I hope that the rest of you take advantage of this thread and give a little "shout out" to your fellow Commishs.

Chris Johnson of the IOSBL. Chris is an organized and dedicated Commissioner. Chris runs a very tight ship without ever coming off as a control freak. This league runs like a fine German automoblie, smoooooth.
Larry Gold of tMBU. Larry runs this talent only, participation points league. This is an unusual type of league with a player agent, player and club option years, contract perks, Japanese League, Arizona Fall League, ect. The Constitution is like the New York phone book. I appreciate all he does to keep this fun and challenging league going. Last edited by scotto313; 10-20-2004 at 06:26 PM. |

I have to chip in for the EVIL wonder twins of the Baseball Maelstrom.
Shane Orr and Shannon Dugan. Shane Orr, the NL Commish is probably one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, and his evil Wonder Twin AL Commish Shannon Dugan isn't far behind. Both fellows do a lot of work for the league, and this league is in the top 3 of ANY leagues out there. I have seen a lot of leagues, but the EVIL Wonder Twins surpass any other league I have visited or been a part of. Their work is unparallelled and unrivaled. I appreciate the time I spend with the Baseball Maelstrom. Nothing else out there rivals it. ![]() Thanks Shane and Shannon. You are the best. TC |

I'd like to both acknowledge the two commishes in my life: Joe Cronin and Andy Brown. Both put a heck of a lot of work into their leagues, and manage to keep things moving and interesting. Especially Joe - who's pretty busy with the playoffs right now.
Andy's great for being there for GMs - and live-simming the series (even before the program let you do it). But most of all - they keep it fun. Thanks guys. |

I forgot to mention this, but it would be nice if we could all add links to said leagues, as to kind of promote them.
Also, I just figured that with all the hate stemming from the Two Minutes Hate (read: Politics/Election), we need some lovin'. And being a Commish, I know I love to hear it when an owner praises me for a job well done, etc. Keep up the fine posts, and maybe pass this along to a fellow Commish to show that we care. And SMLB can be found here.

John Forlano of the HCBL (Hard Core Baseball League) deffinately deserves some love in this thread. The guy spends about 20hrs a week logged onto his site, fixing, tweaking, modifing, and simming our league so the other 29 of us can have an awesome fair league. He does all of this for free and we all appreciate it.

If we are appreciating Commishes that put a tremendous amount of hard work into their league and at the same time are fair and constantly interacting with their owners you would have to mention Brian Stone who started up the 1990s league Lords of Baseball (LOB). In creating the league, Brian hand-edited every player in the league, all the way down to their defensive ratings. He continues to do this with every draftee coming into the league. He also writes front-page stories with every sim and is constantly pushing his owners to be involved. Heck even his website's frontpage is sweet looking.
It has been a great joy to be in the LOB which strives for player accuracy and just an all-around fun environment for the owners. Thanks BC for such a fantastic league! Lords of Baseball Last edited by LawDawg; 10-20-2004 at 10:59 PM. |

The 3 Commishes of the leagues I'm in all deserve a nod, plus a hardworking co-commish in one of the leagues... here's my shout outs of thanks...
POTD, ULB and ATD with Commish Mike Lambert: He's the Wal-Mart of online leagues and I'm in three of them... I don't know how the hell he keeps up with everything, but he somehow he does, lol! Everything he and his wife have done for OOTP leagues and the OOTP community should be appreciated by everybody, regardless if you're even in any of his online leagues. SMLB with Commish Chip Orton: See above comments from some other SMLB league members... Chip's as nice and down-to-earth as you get... all you have to do is just be one of the guys in SMLB and you're guaranteed to enjoy yourself in his league. TBA with Commish Sam Stauder and Co-Commish Brian Marshall: They're a pair that works like clockwork in Ball Alive and, with me being a baseball history fan, I'm an admirer of the league they've structured and the attempt to at least start out incoming rookies with some semblance of historical accuracy. Thanks, fellas, it's been good times in all the above leagues and here's to more good times!

Kieran Quinn commish of KBL is an awesome commish. He first off researched the history of ancient Africa to create a unique feel to the league then he contacted just about everyone on the OOTP boards to see if they wanted to get on the groundfloor. Also the league has almost been going a year now and we've maybe had a sim delayed 3 times at most. He is the most commited guy I have ever seen and all he wants is to see is the league to be the best online experience possible.

Thanks for the kind words, TC.
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned USBA commish, Scott Fite (LivnLegend). The USBA has always been a tremendous league and Scott runs it fairly for everyone. It's easily the best fictional league out there IMO. |

We had a plug for Time Warp baseball above, without any mention of Matts name. I'd like to mention that same commish for the fine work he does with La Liga Mexicana. Matt keeps up with things, sims are allways on time, hes around to answer questions, and all in all runs a very professional league.

I'd nominate Tie Conn, commish of the late WBL (I believe the site has been taken down or I'd link to it). In any case, even though Tie's more of a hockey man than a baseball man, the WBL was the smoothest run and best league I've ever been in and I think Tie was a big reason for that. The WBL could have been your average modern-day roster league, but thanks to Tie and the owners that he hand-picked, it was much more.

The above mentioned WBL is now the FBA and a fictional league. Link: http://fba.ai-sports.com/
Though if you were to go to the old site, it would take you to the new one anyway ![]() I won't toss my bias on the above post, but I have been in my fair share of leagues and I'd certainly have to agree with the above. I will also toss in a word on John LeBlanc and the NBSL (link in Sig). John is a guy who goes on and on and on no matter what, he is dedicated like no other, except maybe Tie. |

![]() Anyway, right back at ya Sporr. It was Shane Orr and Mark Cooley's leagues that really got me excited about online OOTP and helped convince me that one day I could run a league too. Much appreciation goes to both of them for their inspiration and for their help along the way.

league hit for the cycle
commish-dave horn quite possibly the best league i have ever been involved with, and i have been playing since v2. sims are 99.5% on time. in the rare occasion there is a problem he posts to inform all. any problems are always handled for the best of the league. if you have a question or an issue, response is quick and on the money. in many leagues the haves and the have nots get further and further away from each other, not in hit for the cycle. we began in 2003 and every year there is a new champion, and expansion is on the way. even better he is easy and fair as a gm. thanks dave cheers lukster
