The McCarty Effect
Question to the OT Trivia Gods...
In 1918, the Red Sox managed a World Series win- their last to date- with a team that featured pitcher, and later legendary slugger and position player, Babe Ruth. In 2004, the Sox have featured a position player who also pitches- David McCarty. Anyone know if the Sox have had any other two-way players in the years between 1919 and 2003? Might be an interesting storyline...

Does this count if McCarty doesn't make the WS roster?

I don't think there's been any real "legit" two way guys since Ruth for the Sox. I'm not sure if I would even consider McCarty's 3+ IP a qualification for "two-way" guy.
I guess you could consider Player/Manager Joe Cronin a two-way player... but not at all in the sense youre talking about. |

The Mets had a two-way player in Piazza, and they couldn't even make the playoffs!

I would imagine that between now and then....some hitter pitched more than 3 innings in a season for the Redsox.
