Who will get Carlos Beltran?
I'm actually starting this thread only because I'm pissed that some ass deleted the Red Sox thread I started today. WTF??? Was it offensive?
Or is there some sort of discrimination against MY Red Sox thread? Everyone and their brother started one why was mine deleted? Are there people here now that have it in for me? Am I just paranoid? Whatever... Anyway, who will get Beltran? Yankees? Cubs? Dodgers? Astros? White Sox? |

So far, it looks like Mauboy and I are the only ones who are dealing in reality.

Since everyone in the media seems to be ignoring why the Yankees lost, everything I have heard talks about how well the yanks hit in games 1-3 and how lousy they did in games 4-7 oblivious to just how bad their pitching was. I sense Georgie will write a check for whatever Boras asks for (keep in mind Boras is also A-rod's agent and he tends to latch onto a team for a couple of years that will pay his outrageous contract request and since this now makes 4 straight years that the Yankees have failed to win the WS I think George will start listening to those ridiculous offers.) The good news is that when Boras has had his way its also led to the downfall of the teams as any Dodger/Ranger fan can attest too.

I almost want to say the Mariners for a few reasons.
A) They have a buttload of money to spend now. B) Beltran doesn't fall into the mold of old free agents to overspend on. M's may overspend, but at least he's young and at the peak of his game. C) Would give the M's an OF of Reed, Ichiro and Beltran. D) They gotta do something to reel fans back in, and I would much rather have it be signing Beltran than signing somebody else like Delgado or some old pitcher. |

I wish the Cubs would sign him , but Sosa will not be traded and the Cubs have several important players due for arbitration, including Corey Patterson, Carlos Zambrano, and Aramis Ramirez.
Therefore no money left over Tribune Co,

I wish the Dodgers would and I do think they have a good chance of it. If the rumors of them having a deal in place for Vlad last year that was squashed by MLB are true then it shows they're willing to put up for a big contract. They also freed up a lot of money this year so that should help them.
It's going to tough for the Astros to resign him working on the tight budget that they have. If their owner (Hunsicker?) opens up the purse strings a little more they've got a shot or if they let Biggio walk maybe they can use some of that money. I don't see the Cubs doing it unless they unload Sosa and with his ridiculous option if he gets traded I don't see that happening. I see the White Sox going more for pitching than a bat. The Yankee's of course are always the wild card. It really is a matter of whether or not they want him. If they do he's theirs, if not then everyone else gets a crack at him. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Angels or Mets make runs at him. The only problem with the Mets is having Cameron in CF right now. Knowing how the Mets love to make a splash I could see them trying anyway.

It just wouldn't be a Major League offseason if the Yanks didn't sign a ridiculous blue chip player. Yankees.

I think you are in a wonderland anotheralias....
especially if you think after the Yankees' complete collapse and Beltran's NLCS performance that you don't think that George will throw so much money at Beltran's feet that he couldn't possibly turn down the Yankees....Some say George will go pitching crazy - well, he's never really done that before. He's always prefered the hitter and the long bomb to the pitcher because he knows that big numbers and power hitters draw fans in NY - not 1-0 games.
