Player Contract Questions

Since I can't find these answers in the extensive manual that came with the game (hehe) I would like to know how to handle the following two situations.

1. I am playing the Giants using the basic rosters that came with the download. James Fennell, an apparent clone of a certain Mr. Bonds, within the first two weeks of the season sent me an email that he plans on retiring at the end of the season. The current season is 2004 and as I recall his contract runs through the 2006 season, is there anything that I can do to try and pursuade him to continue? Also if you give me an answer that does keep him playing, what might happen at the end of 2006? If I still think he would be good to have on the team would I have a chance of resigning him to another contract and extending him playing for somemore seasons?

2. On the team I have a first baseman that has a hugh salary and no talent. Every team that I have tried to peddle him off to in a trade come back with either of two responses: either he is much older than the player that I am trying to get or they don't want him because he eats up dollars. What would be the best thing that I can do with him and hopefully dump his big salary
without eating too much of it?

Problem 1: He WILL retire, but you can use the UNRETIRE utility ( not in game, 3rd party program) and keep him longer.

Problem 2: Place him on WAIVERS and see if some SAP picks him up......
