PC Gamer (86 out of 100)
Could someone please tell me which PC Gamer (month) this review was done in? I have the past three PC Gamers and did not see it these.
Thanks.

Sadly, it got only an 80% here. Markus is described as a "kid who really likes baseball and programming", and Steve "Kaffrey" is introduced.
This was also interesting: Quote:

We can export stats for triples or doubles from either side of the plate for switch hitters? Hmmm.

OOTP is tops in its genre. When they rate the game do they compare to a game like Madden? I think Madden should be compared to games in its Genre, thus an A grade (90-100%). OOTP is tops in its genre, if you include sim games, I've heard CM is better so a B+ or A- sounds better to me.

How does BM get a better grade than OOTP? That is dumb. They just lost all credibility with me.

I don't know about OOTP1, but OOTP2 was definitely not as good as Mogul. With OOTP3, there was a definite challege, and by OOTP4, OOTP was the clear leader.

I thought it was the current verision, Mogul rocked for a long time. OOTP 4 was good, 5 won me over.

I tend to agree, Ctorg, but I tend to stick with things I'm used to and I was running a Mogul league on top of it. When they went to points, that was my breaking point. I like the financial stuff better in Mogul, but you'd have an MVP one season and then he sucked. It was weird, almost random.

The issue of PC Gamer magazine that gave OOTP an 86% was October 2004.
A couple of PRO quotes from the review are: "Out of the Park 6.0 is a dream experience for this kind of hardcore fan." "It's about realism on a grand scale, and OOTP covers every conceivable element of managing a big-league franchise. It perfectly captures the feel of the sport and adds a twist of modern Moneyball." The only CON quote is: "the only minor problem is with the AI making bone-headed moves in terms of roster management and trading," but it goes on to say, "but those issues have already been fixed with a patch." The July issue of PC Gamer had a review of Baseball Mogul 2004 and gave it a 67%. Basically saying, "it's time for the developers to inject some new life into it. I played both Baseball Mogul and Football Mogul back around 1999 and 2000 (I don't remember what versions they were) and didn't like them. Being a veteran of the Championship Manager series they lacked depth. I am surprised that some of you guys on these boards here actually liked BM. Prior to BM I used to play Baseball for Windows with Ernie Harwell (or whatever it was called) and liked it better. I never actually played through an entire season. I only played individual games and with Ernie doing the play-by-play, even though it was canned, was nice. I am not much of a baseball fan anymore but I do like text-based sports games. I have thought about either getting OOTP or Diamond Mind baseball for the past couple of years and with my five year addiction to Everquest finally over I chose OOTP on the strength of the review in PC Gamer. I am glad that I did, I really think OOTP is great. Last edited by Blackeye; 11-23-2004 at 10:42 PM. |

Well, I started text based sims with Baseball Mogul. I stumbled on to it in an EB (that had a pamphlet about it). It was the first ver. of Mogul and I'd never played anything like it before.
