The BASE utility for Diamond Mind Baseball reads boxscores and gives you more unique reports than you could ever imagine. I so wish there was something like this for OOTP!

Sporr:
We have not been blessed with many needed add-ons. We don't have any program like that, for example, nor anything resembling DangerZ's editor for High Heat, and especially nothing within a hundred miles of Nick Keren's Tony LaRussa utility package. It's a shame. I keep hoping that DangerZ or Nick will become an OOTP fan, but neither has happened. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Possible, but very time consuming, and there aren't that many programmers out there with the ability or the time. It would be much more efficient (and quicker to accomplish) if the data was read directly from the OOTP database - but therein lies the basic problem... to provide the database structure to someone opens up proprietary issues for Markus. I'm going to assume that Markus plans on creating improvements to the reporting engine eventually

Even a comma-delimited output option would be nice....

I was under the impression that the box scores were stored as text files and not in the active player database. I'm sure that the protection of proprietary data formats would not be an issue as Markus and team have been more than willing to provide whatever help they can to people developing utilities.
That said, the utilities that have been created for other games were not developed overnight. Pierre has a great track record and from what I can tell PE2 is going to have more features than any other editor for a baseball sim that I can think of. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but the confirmed features in the CVS reporter alone are more comprehensive than anything I've ever seen. That isn't including the ability to edit every attribute for every player and global editing (which I could never get to work right in the old editor for some reason). Jason

Is there an estimate as to when we can expect to see Pierre's updated editor?
Personally, I'm holding off on starting my league until it comes out. I find the export features invaluable as I store all my stats in an Access database. |

Jason, just to clarify...
I was simply saying that the box scores, because they are in text format (actually html) are not a good source to use as the input to a utility. As far as the database structure, that would certainly be left up to Markus - I was really refering to the fact that there aren't many folks out there with the ability and/or time. On Pierre's editor I agree completely. It may offer a solution to most of the issue brought up - and the CSV output could initiate even more utilities

There was a utility I had for Front Page Baseball that gave awesome stats like streaks, vs. records and attendance and so forth. It was an awesome utility. I am teaching my self programming so that I may one day write a similar utility for OOTP. But by the time I learn, we may be up to OOTP7 or 8 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I cannot wait for the CVS export function.
Once I have a week or two to play with it, after the initial PE2 pre-release, I'm going to try and put together a bunch of excel-compatible spreadsheets with some Sabermetric formulas in them for easy copy/paste use. Jason
