Free Agents

If you drop a player, and say it costs 5 million to drop him, does the signing team pick up that contract? Do you pay anything?

If you just release the player, then you take the entire contract. If he is claimed off of waivers, the claiming team will pay what is left of the players' contract.

So, in a sense, you could still trade after the deadline if you dropped a player and then the other team claimed him, correct?

You keep using the word drop. I do'nt know what you mean.

I assume you mean release. If so, you can release a player at anytime and pay the remaining cost of his contract. At that point, any team can sign.

Is there a playoff roster date (e.g., August 31/September 1)? I think this has been posted, but I can't recall.

I know if I release a player I have to pay. But is that fee waived if another team signs him. Don't they pay it instead of me? Or do they sign a hole new contract?

If a player is released: You pay him the remaining balance of his contract, and he becomes a free agent and has no contract. The next team to sign him creates a new contract with him that is not affected at all by the contract you already bought out.

If you waive a player and he is picked up by another team (OOTP6 only): The team that picks him up picks up the remainder of his contract.

A release is immediate and final and you always pay off the remainder of the contract. A waiver has a waiting period, and may not result in the dismissal of the player.

I hope it's clear enough now...

Chad - what version are you playing???

That will make a BIG difference in terms of us providing you with an answer.... because OOTP6 handles this a lot different from OOTP5.

I have OOTP 6. I was confused at first. I thought waivers and releasing someone was the same thing.
