Strict order and starting rotations

This just came up in one of my online leagues. It's fairly obscure but it wrecked a round of the playoffs for us.

Here's the situation: OOTP 6.03, starting rotation was set for 4 man rotation, strict order, #3 next starter to pitch. However, when the playoffs hit, this team wanted to go with a 3 man rotation so only the top 3 spots were filled. However, the rotation was accidentally left at 4 man. For the playoffs, the #3 guy correctly started game 1. However, since the #4 slot was blank for game 2 and no spot starter was listed, the computer pitched the #1 guy for game two. The problem is for game 3. The #1 spot was listed as next to pitch and the #1 pitcher started again. He gave up 6 runs in the first inning and got injured for the rest of the postseason since he was tired.

What the AI SHOULD have done in this situation is recognizing that only three slots were filled and pitching the #3, #1 then #2 guys. If logic like this was implemented in OOTP6, it would eliminate the need for the rotation size button as well.
