Will there be hand-shaking at the end of the Red Sox vs Yankees ALCS?
Lets see if I can do this poll?
Since the Dodgers showed their class, there has been a lot of talk about the gesture. Do you think it will catch on? Do you think that if the Red Sox Beat the Yankees the Yankees will come out and shake the Red Sox hands? I really think that if Boston wins the Yankees will come out, but if the Yankees win you better believe the Red Sox will not go out ot shake the Yankees hands.

I really doubt it. The Dodgers/Cardinals was the first time I'd even heard about two MLB teams doing that.

If Derek Jeter doing some girly bitch-slapping counts as hand shaking, then yes there will be.

I think it would piss off a lot of their fans to see this. Especially in Boston, it would be seen as consorting with the enemy.

I think there'd be some stinkpalming going on after that series.

Anyway... hell no. Not from either side. These teams don't like each other. There isn't quite the level of animosity that there was in the late 70's, but it's up there... and it starts at the top with Big Stein and Lucky Lucchino. |

Hell no.... it would require more class than most of the players on either side have....

Was there a hand shake at the end of WW2 so why is this any different. The Sox and Yankees have had a war going on since the 1800s.

Oh, and the Red Sox franchise and the Yankees franchise (then the Baltimore Orioles) weren't established until 1901. But, yea, no handshake. |

Still... my guess is the fans hate the other fans more than players vs. players. Sure, there might be the odd player one on one who hates another on the other team, but my guess is off the field they don't really give a damn about the rivalry. I mean, in hockey we've had brother fighting brother at times - but that means nothing once they are off the ice....

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see it. I don't think it would lessen any rivalry. It's a respect and sportsmanship thing. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much you think you "hate" the other team or that you are at "war" with them. Truth is, you don't know enough of the other team to hate them--you may hate a handful--but chances are you actually like a handful also, and there sure as hell isn't a war going on.
It wouldn't surprise me to see it because New Yorkers, for all of their toughguy rhetoric, are good at showing appreciation, love, etc when it's warranted. |
