Historical SIM - Financials Turned Off?

I am starting a historical SIM. I know that free agency didnt start until like the 60's (an exact date would be appreciated too). I would like to run the league as close to accurate as possible, so I would want to do without free agency until it was initiated in real life.

How do I do this? If I completely turn off the financial system, the players have no contracts. If I leave the system on and just disable everything else, then the players all get automatic resignings every year until they are out of a contract and the game still shows them as free agents next year.

How exactly would I run the financial system? What settings would I use for waivers, rule V draft, minor league free agents, etc....

Lastly, in 1901 if a player's contract expired and I didn't resign him, would he be a free agent? I assume yes, but not exactly sure how it worked.

If someone could answer of point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks,

Jim

if you have financials off, there will be free agents sign still....markus added that in patch 6.02a

look in the readme for 6.02a it says "The AI now signs free agents in leagues with no financials."

i wish there was an option to turn off free agent , if you have financial disabled

You mean players on the teams they are supposed to be on? Well, having all teams HUMAN owned is a start, but IF a player changed teams during his career YOU will have to make all the changes. That's a starting point.

First, forgot I didnt say this, but it is a solo league. So, I will be the only human owner.

Second, the league starts in 1901. I guess what I am asking is this:

Say Joe Smith plays for the White Sox in 1901. His contract expires in the 1902 season, and I don't resign him. 1902 comes and goes and he is now out of contract. What happens to him? Is he now a free agent (even though free agency didn't arrive till much later???) or is he still a White Sox player, just out of a contract?

Third, what settings would I use to have the SIM most accurate financially?

Thanks,

Jim

or do replay mode for historical league...

and in patch 6.10 new to replay mode

markus added this

"Added the option to prevent AI teams from releasing and signing players in replay mode (league setup screen, misc. setup)"

i know this isnt solving yr problem, but i wanted to add this query to the historical no-financial type leagues. is there any reason the AI still includes cash in player trades with financials off? a) what cash are they drawing from and b) could it potentially be used to circumvent difficult trades by including 'phantom money?' (ie, lets say i wanted a 4 star player from a rival, i include a top prospect which is not enough, but along with $1mil, they accept...since i dont have financials turned on, including cash might be disingenious unless yr trying to get an unfair advantage...i havent tried doing this myself yet, perhaps someone can confirm).

otherwise, i see historical leagues (whether replay or career) that dont use financials as still using the reserve clause. once a team had a players rights, they had little recourse but to accept a new contract, hold out or get traded. obviously money was a concern for clubs early on; just look at boston's sale of ruth (by harry frazee). ok, not the best example since he was trying to fund his failing broadway productions, but you get the idea. numerous examples like connie mack dismantling his A's dynasty several times over the course of his 50 yrs of ownership because of money issues.

so right now, i guess we just have to deal with these financial quirks until (if and when) the financial co-efficient is built in to the game, to truly simulate the earlier days.
