Anyone sick of Fox marketing yet?
Give me a break already. They've been hyping the Boston / New York series like it is some kind of WWE event. They repeatedly show the fighting clips, talk about trash talk, and keep on talking about the brawls that are about to errupt in the series.
What ever happened to the game? What happened to the "Great American Sport?" Fox is turning the series into some massive trash talking bad assed event filled with backstreet attitudes... Is that how MLB wants to have their product portrayed? Granted - their is no love lost between these two teams, and we all know that, but what about selling the game based on the two great teams that are about to clash, instead of focusing on the egos? Ah well... I guess Fox is just doing what it does best.... appeal to the lowest common denominator.....

Maybe they want to hook in some marginal fans as well, who may be attracted by the conflict. Besides, everyone knows about 'the game' - it's baseball, and we all know what baseball is. Why do they need to show that?

Funny... because they push the other series using baseball as the main theme... why do they need to turn this series into some low-brow wrestling match?
Of course... with the entertainment value of tonights game... maybe they knew what they were doing (in hindsight)

They turn it into a low-brow wresting match because that's pretty much what the Sox/Yankees rivalry is all about.

the coverage on Fox sucks, the announcers suck, their stupid graphics suck, the pregame sucks. Its a good thing for McCarver, people who don't know the game well were very enlightened tonight. They learned that 'Brandon' Arroyo was pitching tomorrow, not Pedro. That a curveball is really called a slider because he called every breaking pitch by Schilling a slider, moron. There were probably other great informational gems but frankly I zone out the announcing.
I actually liked the Star Wars/Evil Empire intro, but the fact that it seemed they had a video package for every damn thing got annoying quick. Treating Marianos trip/arrival like it was OJ driving down the 405 in the bronco was ******ed. 'Mariano is in the building', frankly I could care less. It has definately gotten to the point where the playoffs suck to watch because your stuck with the National telecast overproduced, pop-culture view of the game. The regional broadcasts are a million times better because they mostly focus on the game, I can deal with homer announcers as long as they are talking about the game and not telling us to have a Budweiser, or talking about Springstein or hyping some ******ed reality show they have, ITS A BASEBALL GAME!!! Nothing ruins a sporting event more than it being covered by one of the big networks, and the sad thing is ESPN is catching up to them quick, its even getting hard to watch that now. I might just buy MLBRadio on the net next year and listen to the games, the telecasts are ridiculous |

Oh yeah, and everything is super-climactically-awesomely-earth-shatteringly important. If a guy steals second in the bottom of the 3rd inning, he's the next Rickey Henderson.
I don't have anything against enthusiasm, but give me a break sometimes. Baseball is a game of leisure! Save the fake excitement. Go with the real excitement when it comes, but don't try to constantly manufacture it. |

I love how everytime Lieter announces he finds a way to mention the No-hitter he threw.

I turned off the volume when the Jeter lovefest began.
Jeter's really not a bad player, he hustles, and he's probably a pretty good teammate, but god I hate the way announcers fawn over him. |

He does it all the time. "John Olerud played on my team when I played for the Mets. I wish he would have been on the Marlins when I threw my no-hitter. He would have liked it." "Johann Santana has a great slider, and I should know about great sliders, because I used a lot of them in the no-hitter I threw."

The first and foremost thing FOX needs to do is can the entire Scooter bullshi*. I realize they have plenty of money invested in some questionable announcers, so canning McCarver is probably out of the question. But Scooter has got to go. I was hoping that FOX came to their senses after the first round series. Apparently not.

I keep waiting for scooter to explain a "fastball."
Just so all the baseball fans out there watching the championship series who don't know what a "fastball" is can be enlightened. I'm sure there must be a LOT of fans like that...
