How do I use facepacks in online leagues?

I have a set of player pictures I want to use in an online league that I run. My question is how do I install them? Is it the same process as with logos were you have to upload all the photos and then individually assign each player to their player picture or is there a faster way to do it?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Well, is if the player pics are all numbered (ie. P1, P157, etc) then it's easy. First off, make sure all the pics are .bmp not JPEGS. If they are JPEGS, D/L a batch conversion tool like Irfanview and convert them to bmp's. Then place all the photos in the "Photos" folder located within the specific league folder in which you want the pics to be used. Then go into "League Setup" while in the game and then go into "Advanced Setup" and on the right side you'll see a button saying something to the effect of "Enable all players pictures". Click that and you're good-to-go!

BTW, Batch Thumbs converts jpgs to bmps in mass quantities as well.

Since you mentioned it's for online league play, yes, you have to upload all the photos in bmp format to your webserver and they must be in the same folder with all the reports (game generated html files). After you click enable all photos, the next time you generate your league reports, OOTP5 will copy those player photos into your local reports folder (e.g., c:\leaguesite). Then just upload the whole thing to your webserver and you should be good to go.

Note - you only need to upload those photos once, same with your logos.

Only "bmps?" That's a lot of space. There's no way of using "jpgs?"

I have found you can use .jpg for online facepacks without having to manually change each html page. It will take up more space on your harddrive, but you can save a lot of server space by using .jpg online.

If you have BOTH a .bmp and a .jpg version of the facepack in your PHOTOS folder, the game will use the .bmp version for the game, but will generate web pages with the .jpg

The .jpg version must be in the PHOTOS folder prior to using the GENERATE REPORTS function of the game. When you generate the report, if the game detects a .jpg version of the image it will produce html pages with .jpg instead of .bmp.

I have had instances where I have a .bmp & .jpg of player 1 and only a .bmp of player 2. The game generated an html page with .jpg image for player 1 and .bmp image for player 2.

I have not tried this with the team logos, but I suspect they may work in a similar fashion.

I tried it with the team logos and that did not work.... but like you I have jpg's of all the players and those are what will show up on the player html report (which is the whole basis of DD's facepack). You can use different photos for the bmp and the jpg, which he uses action in game and face on website.

Can someone please give me some detailed instructions on how to make the player photos show up on the html reports? I have them in my photos folder, and most of the files are named by the players name (ex. barry_bonds.bmp), but I also have the MLBdb file with them. From what I understand, when you generate your online reports, the pics should be with each player page, but that's not happening on my part. Maybe I'm missing a step, or just don't have it set up right..............help!!!

To reduce file size of the BMPs by 2/3 change them to 256 colors instead of RGB.

The main issue I am having is the players who are named rather than numbered.

I'm not positive, but I seem to remember an issue where the game was looking for Bxxx_Bxxx.jpg but was producing bxxx_bxxx.jpg or something like that. You may want to check the capitalization to see if that's the problem.

correct (IIRC), the photo files are all lowercase names (as they should be), but the game is creating HTML reports that are looking for capitalized names - a bug that's been reported a few times.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

the MLBdb doesn't really do anything. it's just an access database listing all the players invited to spring training and what teams they were on as of opening day. I wrote a program to help in making my photopacks, and this is the database it uses. Figured some people in the community might have a need for it, so I put it up there to download, but, for the average user, it doesn't do anything.

I realize I'm quoting a 15 month old post, but it bears repeating; this is all good info. Except that it doesn't work with logos (as someone below stated) as the game only recognizes logos in bmp format, unlike player photos which work for jpg and bmp.
