OOTP 5 is slow on new xp machine

I have been running ootp 5 at work, and it is as quick as lightning on xp with no more than 512 mb of ram and a pentium 4. I got a new machine at home last summer, with xp and 2 gb of ram, and the game crawls. My machine has a 3.4 mh dual core processor. I have tried closing everything in the background, and switching sound off in the game. I love this game, and would love to get it going at home. Any suggestions?
