I wouldn't say he's underrated, but he certainly is good.
Jeff Weaver (much as I hate to nominate a Dodger) is quite underrated this year as well. |

It is pretty amazing that is has only given up 13 homers, only 6 in Chicago.

Weaver isn't any better than he has been in the past, he's just been pitching in Dodger Stadium this year.

I'm not sure if he still does but he also led the league in quality starts for a while. |

Weaver's home era is a good half-run better than his road ERA. That is definitely significant.

For his career coming in to this season, Weaver had averaged 4.3 WARP3. This year he is at 4.0 which puts him right on line with his career norm. He's been much better than the last two season, but that is a) hardly something to crow about since he was just awful the last two seasons and b) makes him underrated only if you consider him to be an awful pitcher.

How many people realize that he has the highest peak value of any pitcher in history?

Well, if we're gonna talk "active pitchers over their careers", then maybe it's Pedro. I still go with the Big Unit for just this season, though!!

And for all the non-believers, he once had a perfect game.... that was snapped in the 10th. Still, it's 9 perfect innings.
