OOTP6: Visual Basic Error....data loss after 8 seasons

I apologize if this has previously been addressed but I couldn't find it anywhere. OOTP6 crashed on me last night and gave me a Visual Basic error. Since then, each time I open my league, I see the standings with all the correct info but all player data is gone. Additionally, when I click on my team to open the team screen it just freezes and I get an error saying the game hasn't responded. I am at a loss. I can open other leagues but this one has seized for some reason. This is the first problem I have had.

I am running Win XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had finally navigated my small market club to the top and things were looking up. (sigh) Thanks....

This is my work PC so all of the relevant Windows updates will have been downloaded (not sure about SP2, though).

What else do you need?

Have you had any crashes, lock ups, PC gone into hibernation, etc, etc?

I've had the game shut down on me before because it was 'Not responding' but it worked after that for a long time. I'm running XP Pro which is pretty stable (comparatively speaking, anyway). I don't use hibernate on this PC.

Do you have a backup of your league that you can restore?

I never touched the files other than to back my league up every coupla years. Unfortunately, I had not been very diligent with that, though.

No viruses to speak of. This is my work PC and it gets scanned everyday when we log onto the Network. I'm still using Service Pack 1.

Do you know if you had anything running in the background at the time it crashed? I was in the middle of a sim once and I had forgot about something that I had scheduled to run and it caused a crash and I had to restore from a backup.

Not that I know of. I think it's a bigger issue than that, though, because now I can't even create a new league (of any kind) without getting the Visual Basic Error....

Does the program open? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

It opens fine. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet. I was afraid of what that meant in terms of licensing. I have already used both of my licenses.

Shouldn't do anything but you can always unlicense it before uninstalling if you wish, just write the number down before so you can license it again easily. You can get licenses restored if you have had a crash, lost data, etc by contacting http://www.elicense.com

I reinstalled and I am now able to generate a new league. Still can't get my old league to work, though. It will load but there is no data other than team names and team standings. Attempting to open a team causes a crash.
