Age Question for Everyone (not your age, but your players)

Who is the oldest productive player you've seen in any of your leagues (with normal age modifiers, that is)? I currently have Steve Ontiveros in my alternate baseball replay that started in 1931. I am currently in 2003, Ontiveros is now 42. He has had a great career (316 wins) and at the beginning of this year has ratings of (on a 1-10 scale) 3 for stuff, 5 for control and 4 for movement. He still mainains a 4.5 star rating and still pitches very well. He was 2-0 to start the year, pretty dominant his first three starts. The end may be near, however, as he strained his bicep in that third start and will be out over a month. We shall see if he can come back from that.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

42? 45?

Man I have to talk to Matt in TWB

I think we had a 40 year old pitcher once...but most fall off the hill at the beginning of their 40th birthday

Walter Johnson just retired in my 1901- historical replay at the age of 43 in 1930. That's the oldest I've seen.

I had a guy win the batting award at 42 once. .336 was good enough to get it that year, but still, it was better than all the whipper-snappers in their prime.

We've had a few players hit 40, but the main one that comes to mind is "Mr. No Respect" Will Haggan. He of 337 career wins... and, oh yeah, 299 career losses (yes, that's right). But you can thank his playing for 2 of the worst franchises ever over his 21-year career for that (1902-14 Braves & 1914-22 Red Sox).

He retired at age 45, but only pitched 18 innings out of the bullpen (with a respectable 3.50 ERA). At age 44 he was in and out of the rotation, starting 11 of 32 games. But at age 43, he went 22-15 with a 3.65 ERA (that was 1920).

He retired as the all-time wins and K's leader, both of which have since been surpassed.
