New AnkitDB and CarAvgDB are now available!!!

The main changes in the AnkitDB and the CareerAvgDB are these:

1. Added strikeouts for the following players: anyone who played in the AL from 1901 to 1912 and anyone who played in the NL from 1897 to 1909. Previously, players had 0 for strikeouts because the data was unavailable, I took the league averages for strikeouts per at-bat for the particular season in question to come up with a somewhat reasonable and usable assumption for strikeouts the player would have had. This should result in better simulation results from 1901 to 1910.

2. Caught Stealing data for players from 1876 to 1950 was available for some players but not for most. I recalculated and added CS numbers based on available data from 1951 - 1992. This should lead to better assignment of speed and stealing ability ratings.

In the Career Avg DB, I have included three different "Batting.csv" files which have different Stolen Base data in an attempt to get OOTP to assign proper stealing ratings. You can read about the three files in the file called "Read Me Second.txt" in the AnkitCarAvgDB.zip

There were a lot of minor fixes as well.

IMPORTANT: Please read the Read Me files for new League Import Options settings to use when using these databases.

Let me know if you have any suggestions and comments. Also, keep in mind that for some players the OF position data is unavailable, as such, OOTP will import them as CF. The only work around is to manually give them ratings at other OF positions or make changes to the DB itself. Thanks to all those who have commented on the good and the bad about the DB. Your comments made me make the changes and I appreciate it. You can download the DBs from here:

The Career Average DB:

The Normalized DB, the all NEW Normalized Career Avg DB and a UNIQUE league file will be released later tonight...

Normalized AnkitDB and Normalized Career Avg DB also available. Info in the read me files of each... Definitely a DB for simmers who wonder how Ruth, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and others would do if they played today... Give it a try...

Ankit, thank you for all the hard work and time spent doing things for us.

Your Career Average Database is far superior to the Lahman.

I also appreciate the Lahman, too. because I used it for two years before I got the nerve to try and install yours.

Can you expand on your idea a little more so that I can give you a more precise answer?

well I want to start with the current teams.. like.. DBacks Devil rays, all teams that are currently in the MLB. But I would like to start teh league using players from like 1918. Have a draft with all of the teams (all 30) with the players from 1918, then fill the leftover spots with fictional players, this way I can play a career with all 30 teams but players that were around back in 1918 to present. Basically can I start a 1918 league with ALL teams without having to edit a ton of stuff? Or if not.. what would I have to do, just add all the teams then use a current stadium set and it would work?

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone buy myself... :-/

Create a historical league, set the league starting year to 1918, import the players as per the directions included within the DBs. Once the league has been created and players imported, go into league setup, edit league structure to what it is today, adding the 14 teams that are not there, moving Boston Braves to Atlanta and all the other teams moves. Assign proper ballparks and abbreviations In League Setup, click on "reset, release and redraft". You should be good to go from here on.

ankit, wil he have enough players for the 30 teams he wants..

there was only 16 teams in 1918...so if he reset, release, redraft..will there be enough players for 30 teams?

I'm trying to decide if I should keep the players on their real teams and fill all the added teams with fictional (they would suck.. for a few years at least) or reset and redraft all... don't know which I want to do I might try one of each..

Ankit,

You wouldnt have a copy of your database with all the all the 1 year career players still in the database? Or maybe a list of all the players you deleted?

I was looking at some of these players and most of them seemed to play very few games or else they probably would have stayed in the majors. So i was thinking if we need to use fictional players why not just use the real players. If ootp looks at the whole career i dont think it should make these 1 year players into superstars. It should just help fill the rosters like the real leagues.
I wouldnt bother to average them but it might be better than having fictional players to fill rosters.
Ootp should make these players into career minor leaguers, they may stick around longer, but the same can be said of the fictional players.
