Edmonds vs. Zambrano - how sweet was that?

Usually it's "you hit a dinger off me, I drill you." You hardly ever see it the other way around.

Yeah, well Edmonds just got drilled for a second time, after a Rolen 2 run shot.

Irresponsible c@cksucker...Zambrano will get a BIG fine for this one.

The Cards pitcher to start this next half inning BETTER put one of the Cubbies on his a$$.

Unbelieveable.

GO CARDS!

Asshats.

GO CARDS!
Not only will Zambrano probably be suspended, but the Cardinals pitcher who will supposedly hit the Cub will as well.

Edmonds saw 6 pitches on the night, 3 were strikes called or swinging, 2 were into his right hip, and 1 was deep into the Chicago night.

Bizarre game. After 7 innings Carpenter had given up 11 hits, but had only thrown 82 pitches. The Cubs aren't too big on the idea of working the count.

I still can't figure out what Zambrano was yelling at Edmonds about.

well the Cubbies sure have the talent, they arent coached right. Their pitching staff should be amazing, but Dusty Baker has no clue on how to handle a pitching staff, so his pitchers get injured. The Cubbies have great talent, they just dont play good baseball

Good to see Edmonds keep his head after the last bean ball.

The point has been made, repeatedly, that the Cubs OBP, as a team sucks. There is a reason why they are so far away from first place....they live and die by the home run, and their home run hitters aren't hitting them with runners on base.

Sosa: 65% of his homers this year are solo shots.

Earl Weaver had it right...pitching and 3-run homers.

I was extremely happy to see this. Another interesting thing about that situation is not one Cub came out of their dugout after Zambrano hit him for the 2nd time.

because they knew that Zambrano should have been ejected, coming out of the dugout in their eyes may be the final straw, who knows, the Cubs are Sosa,Prior,Wood, and Zambrano

Still, you would think they would come out of the dugout to back their teamate up. The Cardinals were coming out of their dugout. Maybe they just figured they new Zambrano was in the wrong, or they saw Edmonds wasn't going to do anything. I just thought it was interesting that one team started to come out and the other didn't.

He's out of his mind... He needs to get that under control if he ever wants to be a real ace someday... although, I like the mystique of those intimidating pitchers... we need more of those... baseball's too friendly sometimes... we need more rivalries... Garciaparra should've kicked Jeter in the nuts once...

They did, but everyone quickly back in. Zambrano lets his emotions get the best of him. I don't think the first beaning was intentional. Sadly, I think the second one was. It was pretty dumb. And don;t get me started on Wendell Kim...

You're right, overlooked in the Zambrano mess is the sending of Ramirez home on the flare single to right field. Sanders mowed Ramirez down and it wasn't even close.

Kim doesn't send Ramirez, you've got runners 1st and 3rd, nobody out. Instead, they're left with Barrett on 1st and Gonzalez ends the inning on a double play.

There was something strangely beautiful about Edmonds' at-bats last night. First time up, first pitch hit by pitch. 2nd time up, first pitch homer. 3rd time up, struck out on 3 pitches. Last time up, Zambrano plunks him. Now that's a lot of excitement with a minimal number of pitches.

While it may be true that Dusty has issues handling pitchers....I don't believe it has anything to do with them getting injured...Unfortunately...they are fragile...and it's a shame for Cub's fans because Wood and Prior will probably very rarely have an injury free season....It's just them.
