40 Game Hitting Streak Snapped In PH Appearance
In a personal fictional player league with all computer managed teams, 3B Gerald McLaurin had his league record 40 game hit streak snapped when the computer manager decided to use him as a PH late in the game, leaving him with an 0 for 1 (zipped box score attached).
Now this is obviously not a bug, but it would be nice if the computer manager took something like a hitting streak into account when deciding who to bring in to a game. |

I didn't DL the file, so excuse me about this question, but was the team in question losing? Was there runners on base? If both answers yes, than I guess the manager did take the hitting streak into consideration because if it was me, I would want the hotest hitter on my Team in a team sport up at the moment in time. It is a team sport, not an individual one. If the answer is no to noth question, or just the first one, then nevermind.

And after looking at the box score... the team was trailing by 1 run, and he pitch hit (for the pitcher) in the bottom of the 9th.
Looks like a smart move to me. This is a team sport, teams try to win games. |

My question: What manager in his right mind sits a guy on a 40-game hitting streak?

The player can have a day off when the streak is over. |

in 1984 Alan Trammell was sitting on a 17-game hitting streak when Sparky Anderson gave him a day off to rest. In the 8th inning, Sparky brought Trammell into a tight game to pinch-hit. Afterward, Sparky said he didn't even realize Trammell had that hitting streak.
FWIW, Trammell doubled in his PH role.

I went back and looked at into this streak further and this is the second time during his streak that the guy had been used for just one AB. Fortunately, he got a hit in the earlier one and kept his streak alive.
The only reason I even brought this up is was/is the longest streak in the history of this league and it was a shame to see it end like this. It was fun to follow while it lasted and I knew it would come to an end eventually, but it was a bit disappointing to see the guy (OK, the semi-randomly produced collection of bytes on my computer) get cheated. If the computer manager decides to give a guy the day off (especially one who has a historic streak going), it'd be nice if the computer manager would also take in to consideration things like this... |

He ended up with hits in his next few games before the streak "legitimately" ended with an 0 for 4...
