Hitter's Club

OK, time to give the hitters some due. Same rule as the previous Pitcher’s “Clubs” except I like Eck’s added twist of providing another member’s name rather than shouting out the answer. This might give others a chance before some braniac comes in and solves it in a Jeopardy Ken nanosecond.

This very exclusive club currently has barely more than two dozen members.
Jeff Kent is in the club but Barry Bonds is not.
Kirby Puckett is in.
Willie Stargell was once a member. So was Jason Kendall. Neither is in now.
Gary Ward was once in but is now out. His son, Daryle Ward, is in the club.
George Brett was once in but then he was out a few months later. He rejoined the club over a decade later!
No Dodger has joined the club in decades! No Padres are in the club.

Did I provide enough clues to figure out this club? If so, see if you can come up with another member!

Two questions:

1. Is it true that Daryle Ward was not in the club as a Dodger? Or do you mean that he wasn't a Dodger when he joined?

2. Looking at Kirby Puckett's stats, I wonder: how in the world did that guy make the HOF?

Both of the above statements are correct.

Still working on this - I've probably spent about 45 minutes trying to get it. This is tougher than I thought it would be. Nice work.

Eck, glad it's tough. I thought it would be too easy!

I think I have this one.

Travis Fryman was once in this club, but no longer is.

John Olerud is in.

Edit: Decided to trim down my possible answers list.

I knew I listed too many Pirates to fool you

Yeah, it was the Pirates that just gave it away.

Yep! Nice job.
Should be getting easier for folks now with Skip's and Mats' contributions.

I'm sure his career ending injury had something to do with it. Kile was on the Ballot, so you never know.

Damn. That Frank White clue has me really confused. I thought I was getting close before that.

Yes, you do know...the Hall of Fame has strict balloting procedures that it adheres to year after year. There are no "surprises" in the balloting. Adding Kile to the ballot was not an emotional or irrational decision...it was following established rules and procedures.

I hope I'm not the only one that is utterly confused.

Thank God! I think I finally have it. Dave Winfield is in the club. So is Vlad Guerrero.
