Eligibility for free agency

I couldn't find the threads here where this has been discussed, and a general internet search wasn't conclusive.

A player is eligible for free agency after 6 years major league service time.

This is 6 full years, correct? As in 1032 (6 x 172) days?

If a player has spent, say, 8 seasons in the majors, but parts of some of those seasons were also spent in the minors, and he has only accumulated 1000 ML service days, he is still not eligible for free agency?

I am using Pierre's editor to fix my players' service time counts, and I want to make sure I do it accurately.

More or less. There are a couple of exceptions:

1) If a player was on an optional assignment for a total of less than 20 days in a season, then he's credited that time as major league service time.

2) Anytime spent on the DL or on a minor league rehab assignment is considered major league service time.

So, going back to your example of a player with 1000 service days over 8 seasons, it's probable that he isn't eligible for free agency, but it's possible that he is. It depends on whether he was acruing major league service time during any of his minor league assignments.
