Active Player HOF Debate: Left Field
Locks
Barry Bonds - What is there to say that hasn't already been said? The only questions left for me are whether he will pass Aaron for the home run record and Ruth for the best player of all time. Possible Lance Berman - Whole lot of work ahead of him, but has as good a chance as a 28 year old with three full seasons under his belt could hope for. Career .414 OBP and would have a great shot at NL MVP this year if not for Mr. Bonds. Brian Giles - Has a real up-hill climb. Got trapped behind some great players (and some John Hart fool's errands) to start his career and then toiled in obscurity for Pittsburgh and now San Diego. Statheads love him and even traditionalists have come around. Still, at 33 his career totals will likely be way too low. Luis Gonzalez - Late bloomer very quietly building a case since the move to Arizona. Over 2,000 hits but has yet to reach 300 home runs (which no longer seems like the standard it once was). Will likely fall short with the voters thanks to taking so long to develop which has hurt his career totals. May end up being deserving, however. Feel like I may be missing people, but I'm sure you guys will remind me

Shannon Stewart. He may not seem like it, but with a .303 .368 .448 line and 1127 hits in 9 seasons (6 full), he has a chance. Not a lock by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly has the potential.

Nice little player, but has yet to have an All-Star, let alone MVP, level season which, to me anyway, disqualifies him.
