Red face [RES] - OOTP5 - revenue sharing and Robin Hood....

So... last year when we moved to our 2003 season revenue sharing was good and everyone started the year with $12.5 million in the bank.....

So you wouldn't think things would be much different in moving to the 2004 season right?

Wrong...

While MOST teams have $12.5 million sitting in their bank account, five of the twenty teams in the league have:

$2.03 million
$9.50 million
$4.66 million
$2.15 million
-3.10 million (Must be an Adelphia owned team...)

What gives? Is this a bug of some sort? Is there a way I can fix this? I did a search on "revenue sharing" and it returned only three posts with rather inconclusive info (although, one mentioned a problem like this in OOTP4).

Thanks!

More details.... taken from a reply I made in another thread...

take a look at my league this year (our cash cap is $12,500,000)

Code:
2004 START TEAM HANDOUT MARKET
12,500,000 Big Sky Slightly Above Average
12,500,000 Brooklyn 3,775,104 Huge
12,500,000 Orlando 3,760,337 Good
4,661,842 Seattle 10,675,000 Slightly Above Average
12,500,000 S.Creek Average
2,034,937 Halifax 10,300,000 Slightly Above Average
12,500,000 Goffstown Average
12,500,000 Port Huron 6,132,741 Average
-3,122,023 S.Island 2,059,038 Good
12,500,000 Tampa Huge
12,500,000 Burlington 7,441,170 Average
12,500,000 Dover 4,767,019 Good
12,500,000 Dunedin 7,634,466 Good
12,500,000 Glen Ellyn Huge
12,500,000 Nevada 7,854,000 Really Big
12,500,000 Bedford 5,117,054 Big
 9,481,794 S.Cruz 10,550,000 Small
12,500,000 Malibu Huge
12,500,000 Sarasota Average
 2,154,916 S.Cath. 1,850,000 Average
As you can see, 15 of the 20 teams actually did start the season with 12,500,000 cash (our limit) but 5 teams did not.... (one team, S.Island, who finished with a $5 million loss last year, only received a measly $2 million handout, leaving them at -$3 million to start the year!)

Where the handout is blank the team made over 12,500,000 and did not receive any equalization payments... looking at the above you can see that some teams in "really big" markets (like Nevada) received more cash than "average" market teams (S.Cath). Why is that?

I'd love to know how it is determined, as I have owners crying foul over the process....

Only teams in lower than average markets get any revenue sharing money. Unless all teams had Player Expenses less than Revenues, some teams will lose money during the season. It looks like the 5 teams you have mentioned probably had Payrolls higher than their revenues. At most, I've only seen 2 teams in any season get any Revenue Sharing money. Revenue Sharing disbursements are listed in the League News section near where it tells about changes in Team Market Sizes and Fan Loyalty.

Really? In OOTP5? Because I've never seen any dispersements in the League News Section then....

But I'm confused. I looked at what cash the teams ended with in their 2003 season, and then checked the cash they had at the beginning of the 2004 season and many had a lot more cash. All teams that had above 12,500,000 were cut down to 12,500,000 while many of those under that were brought up to 12,500,000.... (see the "handout amount" in the charts above).

If teams with below average receive amounts... and the amount are listed in the news section (which I have not seen) - then how did these other teams suddenly jump to 12,500,000?

Thanks for helping me try to understand this... as I said, owners are questioning and want me to edit their cash on hand and I want to make sure I'm not messing anything up by doing so....

In order to answer your questions, I would have to see your team financial pages. Cash won't jump up at all without a listing in the League News section. However, if teams had a profit during the season, the profit will be applied towards cash. My guess is that teams that "jumped up" to $12.5M had earned enough profits to take them above your league max cash. Teams that stayed at $12.5M already had enough profits to keep them above that threshhold. Meanwhile, teams that operated at a loss during the season are the ones that saw no increase in cash at the end of the season.

I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!!!!

Thanks Sporr... you know what I completely forgot about? The fact that the teams all had CASH at the end of last year on TOP of their yearly loss/gain.

I'm sure if I work the numbers now, I will see that you are correct!!

More as soon as I go through the report..... right now, I need to hit Home Depot to pick up some pieces for my fridge - another minor crisis

Well.. here it is... all calculated out now...

Code:
TEAM CASH	REVENUE TOTAL MARKET
Big Sky 9,725,000 20,732,695 30,457,695 Slightly Above Average
Brooklyn 6,149,885 8,724,896 14,874,781 Huge
Orlando 9,450,230 8,739,663 18,189,893 Good
Seattle 10,675,000 -6,013,158 4,661,842 Slightly Above Average
Stoney Creek 9,025,000 14,590,917 23,615,917 Average
Halifax 10,300,000 -8,265,063 2,034,937 Slightly Above Average
Goffstown	10,275,000 16,544,011 26,819,011 Average
Port Huron	10,475,000 6,367,259 16,842,259 Average
Staten Island 2,059,038 -5,181,061 -3,122,023 Good
Tampa 9,502,641 24,004,514 33,507,155 Huge
Burlington 9,300,000 5,058,830 14,358,830 Average
Dover 7,466,563 7,732,981 15,199,544 Good
Dunedin 5,850,000 4,865,534 10,715,534 Good
Glen Ellyn 3,594,909 30,085,655 33,680,564 Huge
Nevada 9,925,000 4,646,000 14,571,000 Really Big
Bedford 10,682,587 7,382,946 18,065,533 Big
Santa Cruz 10,550,000 -1,068,206 9,481,794 Small
Malibu 10,275,000 22,443,102 32,718,102 Huge
Sarasota	10,375,000 13,614,024 23,989,024 Average
St. Catherines 1,850,000 304,916 2,154,916 Average
so yes indeed... in you grab the five teams I mentioned at the start of the post and check the numbers they have to start the season they DO INDEED match the numbers just above. And since four of the five were in the black they received nothing, and the only team that was in the red has a GOOD market and so doesn't qualify.

Thanks again for the help sporr....
