Nothing with a team from Philly? I invite that author to come take in a game at the Linc and see how well he does in the hospital.

What about this one college football one-

everybody vs. Notre Dame?

I was really surprised to see a Chicago paper not throw ND in there somewhere with the HUGE following they've got in the area. And the White Sox-Twins, come on. I live in Chicago, it's not a big rivalry. White Sox-Brewers a few years back was much, much better.

I agree with the white sox-brewers, but since the brew crew switched leagues that has since died.

Although the white sox-twins does seem to have bad blood flowing. There has been several heated games.

However, i think the cubs vs white sox is more of a rivalry than both of those.

Anyone who has been to the Big House for a Ohio State-Michigan game would know just how huge a rivalry that is!

Anyone who's been shot with a crossbow for being a Catholic would know how peaceable you US guys are in your rivalries!

It's interesting how accomodating most of your rivalries are. You don't even have seperate seating for home and away fans. It's really amazing with the concentration of support (i.e. so many fans for so few teams) that you have a very tiny minority of hooligan behaivour. Remember the hassle over the Browns fans throwing plastic beer cans? It's not exactly the coins that regularly rail down on officials and players, flares, or even a pig's head was thrown at Luis Figo the other year.

That doesn't make them any less great sporting rivalries though. If anything, it makes them better. Most of the great soccer rivalries are based on violence, not on sport.

I'll obviously comment on hockey. The Canadien has great rivalries with the Bruins and the %£&$@ Leafs, and used to have rivalries with the Red Wings and the Nordiques, when they existed. I think that the Leafs/Canadien is the ultimate, classic hockey rivalry, the Sox/Yankees of hockey. Sadly, we haven't had the chance to face them in the playoffs in recent history, so I guess we'll just have to be content with beating Boston!

I hate the Philadelphia Eagles so much that I've decided never to step foot in the state of Pennsylvania lest my blood boil over and out my eyeballs in anger.

My thoughts exactly. I thought "Where the **** is Leafs/Habs?"

...lately, it hasn't been as intense since sadly, the Canadiens haven't really been as good as the leafs (Mind you they don't spend a fortune either...)

In turn, Sens-Leafs has become pretty big, as well as Bruins-Habs, but overall the Montreal-Toronto rivalry still has to be the biggest when you factor in history.

Well the Bruins/Habs rivalry has been pretty good throughout history. In the 70's, they faced each other somewhat often, and in the late 80's / early 90's, they faced each other 9 straight years. However, it's not as emotional as a Leafs/Habs game, obviously. Also, in Montréal, you'll have more luck finding someeome that hate the Leafs than someone who hates the Bruins, but that just might be rational thinking .
