salary cap question

I've installed a salary cap in the game. The cap is set at 85 million, obviously the Yankees and Red Sox can't sign anyone as they have to wait for their cap to get below that amount, but what about free agents? Do their salary demands take into account the salary cap? Suppose every team is at 84 million, will the FA's recognize and sign a smaller contract just so they can get some PT? Or do they holdout for their $11 million contracts?

No, you're going to be disappointed, son. It doesn't matter what the salary cap is.

It's not that they will hold out, but they will accept the best offer.

beside trades and intial draft when does ootp let you be over the salary cap?

Very uncool of you to impersonate me on this message board, even going so far as to add my league link to your sig. That takes no guts unless you care to tell me what your normal user handle is.

That's pretty ridiculous -- though imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (or so someone, somewhere once said).

Well, unless he wants to suddenly post 4000+ times, I think we'll all know the real you. I agree, though - somebody needs to get banned.

Here is an added question for the salary cap. I instituted the cap in season three of a fictitious league. Most teams tried to get under, but there are still about twelve above it after the start of the next season after implementation. How long until teams actually try to get under or are they just paying penalties? What is the repercussion to the teams not abiding by the cap?

I believe there are no penalties for being over - though you can not sign FAs or extend contracts for added money.

Only problem is he is posting like a dork in the OT forum.

Or is that an accurate representation of imitation?

I don't understand the point of that post other than 1.) Contradict your point within seconds and 2.) Expose your typical day.

I have played 25 years with a salary cap, and the do work, it just takes 2-3 years for all the teams to adjust. If a team is over the cap, they are not allowed to add salary via trade, sign free agents or coaches, or add salary via extension. Even with a cap in place you are still going to have teams that go over because of arbitration. Also salary demands do go down. After 25 years in my league with a $72 million the highest salary is $11 mil/year.

yeah there is a message when trying to trade that says we cannot afford the contracts of the offered players.
