What does this comment mean for OOTP 6?

i was reading a comment by Marc Vaughan from SI

It means Markus worked on the last patch at the SI office.

My immediate (and uninformed) reaction to that is that it means no significant changes to OOTP v6 beyond serious bug-fixes, which means, no H2H, which sucks. I hope I'm wrong. This isn't the financial co-efficient, ie. a relatively minor feature that was left out of v5. This is one of the big features that was part of the selling point of v6.

Markus posted this less than two weeks ago:

"Next up is the first big update, which will add new features. No timetable has been set for that yet. We'll keep you posted!"

And since SI stated they won't block support of OOTP6, I would tend to think that the next update will be as Markus stated. Although I do agree (and hope) that bugs should be fixed before new features are added.

Customer relations are a crucial part to running a company. Although I honestly beleive Markus is dedicated to OOTP6, i dont think his dedication is as much as it has been in previous versions. We cant speculate on things we wont get answers on. Sure OOTP6 needs work, there is no argument about that but, all of this paranoia about a select few words of Marc's post is completely ludacris. It's really laughable to see how worried lots of these people are about OOTP6. I trust Markus and his ability to fix the game-he hasnt let me down yet. There has been 6 versions of OOTP each one is better than the last, trust the guy he has came through for us all everytime in the past-why doubt him now? The bugs need fixed, new features should be added (as promised) but give MH some time, he has a new job and is working on FUTURE versions of the game. This is only going to make the game better. Patience is virtue, I'd like to see some people show it around here.

IIRC OOTP7 isn't due out until 12/2005. That gives the team PLENTY of time to fix up v6 a bit and then start hammering away at v7. I'm with Henry, stop playing Magnum.

I actually take the quote as a positive thing. It says they're letting Markus work full time on patching OOTP6.

So what conclusion can we draw concerning the status of ITP from these comments?....At least I understand a little better why the small loyal group of ITP players are being ignored...it's not right, but now there is a reason why....

I don't think that it means there won't be H2H. IF that were the case, there would be a serious problem...as that was an advertised feature and was one of the reasons many people purchased the game. I'm pretty sure the OOTP gang knows that no H2H would cause some big problems for them.

(copied from another thread - these things appear to be breeding at a rate of knots at the moment )

What I indicated was simply fact (sorry if it offended anyone) ...

Markus is working with us on a new title (OOTP7/OOTP:FE/whatever) ... SI are in no way involved with any previous products which Markus has produced and will recieve no revenue from such things, thus from a business point of view we obviously shouldn't be funding them ... (well duh ) ...

However the strength of the community and the support Markus has given his products was one of the reasons that I wanted to work with him, so despite the fact that it doesn't 'directly' help SI I am happy for him to do some support work for previous OOTP inhouse at SI.

I'm sure that support for the game will continue beyond this - however it is obviously entirely up to Markus with regards to this and obviously he does have a new game to work on

Hope this helps,

Marc

While I am certainly happy to get the facts, and must commend SI for their honesty and willingness to communicate, the facts make me more than a little nervous.

Continue to trust that Markus did what he feels is best for OOTP. I know I was initally very nervous and still am about this venture and hope it doesn't mean doom.

I do however not have any problem knowing Markus will continue to support OOTP6, he's never let his customers down and won't start now.

No offense to everyone, but I like these forums a lot and hope to continue to use them. However, I have no idea why they keep them open. Public trashings are not normally a good idea for any company. It is really only a few people who want to feel more important then they really are. OOTP should do itself a favor and limit discussions on the boards to leagues and game strategies - let all else email themselves into oblivion.

So I did understand Mark Vaughan corrently. Unless Markus is working overtime (and I don't hold it against him if he isn't; everyone has or should have a life outside their job), we're not getting H2H.

you know, this is getting tiring.

if you idiots are going to continue to become amateur detectives and jump to wild conclusions on every single word people say, you'll end up with one thing - an end to all official posts.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

As far as I'm concerned, that's more or less occurred already.
