Has anyone ever won an arbitration case?

I noticed that the "player salary" page in the "front office" section indicates some arbitration eligible players and also estimates their salaries next season. However, it seems to me that the players also win! If the estimation is higher than a player's current salary, he'll get that higher amount next season, but if the estimation is lower, then he'll get his current amount of salary.

Here is an example: I have Brad Wilkerson who made $2.07M/year initially. Unfortunately, his skill regressed badly in the next 3 seasons, and the estimation of his salary also dropped to $0.86M/year. But the fact is that Wilkerson kept winning his arbitration cases and making $2.07M a year while contributing his $0.86M-worth efforts.

I vaguely recall having an arb-eligible player (in an OOTP5 and not an OOTP6 league) whose salary dropped, but my memory may be at fault here.

I'm almost positive I've had players in 5 that have had their salaries drop in arbitration.

My staff ace is currently making $4,985,000 this year from last year's arbitration and he's posted a great 16-6 record with a 3.03 ERA and a no-hitter but his arbitration estimate for next season is only $4,210,000 (hehe, 'only'). I am hoping to 'win' that arby case to get his salary down some (although he deserves much more...don't tell his agent I said that!) and I'll let you know the results in a couple weeks.

Salary Report, Nuckols is the first guy on the list

I don't think arbitration is "won or lost" in OOTP. IRL arbitration is when both sides make bids and a third party decides who's is more correct. Just because a guy gets a raise doesn't automatically mean he won. Say player A currently makes $500k. He feels next year he is worth $2M, maybe his team thinks he's worth $1.5M. He gets the $1.5M, gets a hefty pay raise, but lost the arbitration case. There is no way from knowing in OOTP who wins or loses the case. I don't there really are winners and losers. I think the game basically makes adjustments to the arbitration eligible player's salary that are in line with what a player of his ratings, experience, and statistics should be making.

If we had true arbitration in the game with winners and losers then we as GMs would be asked to submit a bid on all arbitration eligible players. The AI would then make a bid on behalf of the player and another function in the AI would decide who was more right and award a salary based on that comparison. Maybe as an idea for V7 we could suggest actually having to submit arbitration bids on players.

OOTP does not reduce a players salary in arbitration. If the players arbitration value is listed as less then his current salary, then he'll probably be making that same salary next year.

The caveat is if you get a arbitration eligible player to sign an extension for less money then he's currently making (i.e. a guy making 375k signing a Minor League extension would get him back to 300k if he made the majors the next season).
