300 Saves = 3,000 hits and 500 Homeruns

According to Mariano Rivera collecting 300 saves is the very same as collecting 3,000 hits and 500 Homeruns.

Why?

...because you've got to have eight or nine good years of really doing the job."

Because eight or nine years of really doing the job will get you 3,000 hits and/or 500 homeruns?

Who are you to question Mariano Rivera? Like I've ever seen you donning a major league uniform? Pffft.

Well maybe 500 homeruns could be done in 9 years in the Steroid Era (that's 55.5 homeruns a year). However, I have yet to see a position player average 333 hits a year so I think his math is a little off on 3000 hits

Good years, though, KC. I'd call Ted Willaims' efforts worse than average - he didn't even get a hit half the time.

Man, the Yankees are so great, all of their players should be in the HoF.

Mariano Riveria is so damn good they need to put him in the HoF before he retires.

My opinion is 400 or 500 saves is a better figure to be considered an alltime great...at least in modern baseball...300 I think is too low.

Saves are relatively meaningless anyway. But if you have to go with something, make it 500. I figure a good closer gets as many saves in a year as a good power hitter gets homers, so 500 is a good number to go with.

So would 300 saves be the same as 300 wins?

When is the last time a guy had 50 wins in a season? And saves?

Saves and wins are both basically meaningless.

If you want to get Mariano Rivera's attention, sit by the Yankees bullpen and heckle him in Spanish. Ask him if he wants to pleasure you orally. Guaranteed to get a dirty look!

Of course, then he comes in and gets the save anyway.

He'll have to stand in line.
