Increasing Difficulty of OOTP6

I have a problem. I love OOTP6 but I wish to make the game MORE DIFFICULT! In my 1st season, I took the Houston Astros, playing in Manager mode (Difficulty - All Star (Hard)), deliberately drafted lower salary players and wound up with a payroll of $56 million which is 28TH in the league. My team is 41-16 (.719) after 57 games. How can I make it more difficult? I noticed even if you take Kansas City, Pittsburgh or other "small market" teams, you can still draft whoever you want and the game basically adjusts the financial system to accomodate! What gives? Please help! What can I do to make the game more difficult? Thanks, Mark
