Some help please with Baseball terms

Hi there

I am a huge fan of baseball however because Baseball isn't a sport that is played at all in my country I don't really know what all the stats mean and stuff like that. Over the 5 or 6 years I have followed Baseball I have worked out all the individual player stats and now fully understand what they mean, but when it comes to contracts things start to confuse me. I have four terms below that were on the screen next to different players when i was in the process of looking through who I wanted to re-sign for the 2nd season. The terms are:

1 Yr. FA
1 Yr. Auto Res.
1 Yr. Arbitration
1 Yr. Poss. Arbitr.

I have no idea what any of that means, I would ecspecially like to know what Arbitration means.

Cheers for your time an I hope someone can help me out.

PS - I am 26-16 with St. Louis in my first season with OOTP6. I don't that that is to bad, tied at the top of the NL Central with Houston who have won 9 of the last10

1 YR FA= the player is in the last year of his current contract, and will be a free agent after the season.

1 YR auto Res.= the player is on a contract that ends after the season. However, he does not have enough service time to be a Free Agent or go to arbitration, so the team can automatically renew his contract for the league minimum.

1 YR Arbitration= the player's contract ends after the season, but he does not yet qualify for free agency. However, he does qualify for Arbitration. The player salaries screen will give you an estimate of how much it thinks his next contract will run. All arbitration awards are one year contracts. If you don't think the guy is worth the salary he is predicted to earn, release him before free agency begins. In real babseball, the player and the team each submit a salary figure the respective parties beleive the player is worth, and an independent 3rd-party person decides which of the salries the player will get. In OOTP the AI picks a number out of thin air.

1 YR Possible Arbitration= same as above, with the possibility of the player not qualifying due to not having enough service time. Basically, if the guy has minor league options left, sending him down will lower the chance of his qualifying for arbitration.

Hope this helps.
