Interpreting Spring Training results

I'm not sure how to interpret Spring Training Results.

For instance, my Closer last year had a pitch velocity of "96-100 mph".

But this year's Spring Training results for him are:
"Dante Camara has good pitching sessions!
Dante Camara has lost some throwing velocity."

But as I start a new season his pitch velocity has gone
up to "100+ mph"

So how can he lose pitch velocity in Spring Training and yet throw harder ? Should this loss in velocity be interpreted as being temporary? Or maybe he just had a bad Spring Training?

Thanks in advance

What the spring training report failed to tell you is that after Dante Camara lost some throwing velocity he went on an Atkins, BALCO, and Creatine diet. Now he is a lean, mean, baseball throwing machine....but has lost several points in control (of his bowel movements!)

The more I see of spring training reports, the less reliable I think they are.

The thing that was at the top of my wishlist for v6 was spring training but oh well still a good release.

The report that said he lost throwing velocity was probably referring to his ‘Velocity’ pitching rating. The actual speed at which he throws the ball is the MPH figure. Although these things seem similar, and are obviously related, they aren’t the exact same thing. A player can lose or gain Velocity and still be throwing the ball at the same speed.

The answer is really quite simple. Since Dante Camara is the OOTP 6 kosher name for Kyle Farnsworth, the game is merely taking into account the growth of Kyle's mulletude. While Kyle was less than impressive in your spring training, the growth of the mullet, as it does with all pitchers, inevitably increases velocity and unhitability.

I think its a physics thing, where velocity and speed don't have the same definition. I don't know, I didn't get a good grade in physics.

Picture the MPH report of how hard the player throws as a real physical piece of data, like a radar-gun readout. The player’s Velocity is a theoretical construct, related to the actual speed of the player’s pitches, but not correlating directly.

I know the difference between velocity and speed, it is just that I only see velocity as a player rating. Thus, when the example is as above described, a player that has an decrease in velocity according to ST, yet his velocity rating increases doesn't make sense.

IMO, there is no speed rating in v6....

Instead of worrying about what the ratings are called, focus on what they mean....

* Good Movement (Primary Rating) & Good Control = less Homeruns

* Good Stuff (Primary Rating) & Good Velocity & Good Control = more Strikeouts

* Good Control (Primary Rating) = less walks

..and there is a question into Markus as to whether Velocity is working correctly.
