Age range solution - JUCO players?
I've read a couple of threads here that have correctly pointed out the inappropriate age ranges for amateurs (20 year-old high school players, 24 year-old college draftees, etc.)
How about, and forgive me if this has been mentioned/suggested before, if JUCO (Junior College) players were introduced to the game? They could serve as an age break between high school & college amateurs, and help reign in the inconsistencies of age that we see in the draft. It could work as follows: High School Players: 17-18 JUCO Players: 19-20 College Players: 21-23 In real life, a fair mumber of JUCO players are actually drafted each, though not as many, of course, as high school & college players. In fact, some pretty good players have been drafted from JUCO's over the years (Andy Pettitte, Marquis Grissom). Usually, JUCO players are selected in the Amateur Draft as "Draft and follow" players. In other words, players that are drafted by a team, not signed immediately (teams have one year to sign drafted players), allowed to return to their JUCO's the following spring, and if they have a good year, they are signed. That's precisely what the Yanks did with Andy Pettitte in 1990. Now since an accurate "draft & follow" scheme would be too complicated to incorporate into OOTP in any meaningful way, JUCO players can serve, as I said, as age breaks between high school ammys and college ones. Well, it's just a suggestion, and again, I apologize if this has been suggested before. |

Sounds good to me. The JUCO I went to has 6-8 guys drafted every year.
