Text won't show clear enough

Hi,

I just purchased OOTP6, and before I could even get into it or mess around with the features, I noticed that the text is nearly impossible to read for me.

For example:

O P L e g e

When it should say "OOTP League"

This is very frusterating. Having shelled out $35 and not even being able to play the game due to invisible text, I'm pretty annoyed.

Is there any way to fix this, and is anyone else having this problem? Help is very appreciated.
Also, I downloaded the patch and it didn't seem to fix it.

Every single part of the game.

The text is horrible. I thought it might just be certain screens, but it's everywhere. I can't read 75% of the stuff.

Try disabling the 3D graphics.

START -> PROGRAMS -> OUT OF THE PARK DEVELOPMENTS -> OOTP6 -> GAME CONFIGURATION

Disable Direct 3D and see if you still have the problem.

Tried it. Tried all of that.

Now whenever I run it, I click through the screen and whatever's underneath the game comes up (i.e. an icon on my desktop, webpage, whatever's under the game at the moment).

This is one of the glitchiest things I've ever seen, and it's my first experience with OOTP... I'm pretty disappointed.

Hell if I know, but it's a good computer. It's a pentium 3 I believe, Compaq... Sims games, shooter games, all of those run perfectly fine. Which is why I know it's not my graphics card or something.

Do you have the latest DirectX from Microsoft?

I'm not really sure what the problem might be.

Hold on, I'll post a screen shot. Not sure what DirectX is- could you elaborate?

And thanks for your help so far.

That's how it is. Sometimes it's worse.

800 by 600, but there has to be some other way. If I change it the game works, but my whole screen is tiny. My friend's having no problems running it on 800 by 600, and even so, I don't see why I should have to change my resolution to read some text..

Like I've said, on any other game I've played the text has been just fine.

On a side note, is there a way I can change the game's resolution instead of my whole computer? I know other games I've played have that option.

I'm not sure why you are having troubles. It seems like your resolution is too high for it, but if its 800 by 600, there shouldn't be a problem. Try going to Windows Update and see if one of the recommended updates is DirectX. If not, you should have the latest version. I'm not sure what else it could be if its not that. Hopefully someone can help you out tomorrow if you're still having problems.

I have directX version 8.1 apparently... will not having 9.0 really just affect the text? I went to download what I thought was 9.0, and it was an 182 MB file... is that even the right thing? Because I don't want to download the wrong thing and have it sit not being used, as I've only got about 1 or 2 GBs left on my hard drive.

Not having 9.0 could be affecting it. Here's the link. It may very well be 182 MB.

Downloaded it, restarted, still can't see the text.

I just don't understand how it will work for everyone else seemingly, but not me. And I really don't know why I should have to make my screen size extremely small in order to see the text...

It's due to the graphic card. The game is designed to be played on 1024x768 as min resolution, but some cards can run it perfectly at 800x600 as well. You may want to upgrade your graphic drivers to see if that does the trick, but it isn't likely.
