Reminder to newbies starting their first league

After you finish your first season you may want to visit the all time leaders (league and team) section and remove the rookie records. Doesn't seem fair to have a 30 year old all star set the rookie home run record. Since your first season is everyone's "First year in the majors" you have to manually remove these records.

Even in a fictional league you wouldn't do this. I mean if I start a new league the first year is everyone's rookie year in my league no matter what age they are.

If they are 42 years old and set the rookie record then retire, its messed up but hey thats the foundation of the record and he set it in his "rookie" year.

On the contrary, no one is a rookie because there was no league there already for them to be a rookie in. ‘Rookie’ only has meaning relative to the concept of ‘veteran.’ If there are no veterans, there are no rookies. To me, a rookie is a new player in an established league. In my leagues, online and solo, the first year of a season has no players defined as ‘rookies’ and no rookie awards.

What about everyone deciding for themselves?? It is nice to inform people of this option, but I think everyone is able to decide how they want it to be in their own leagues.

This is correct. If you alter any rookie records, you will have problems. Certain records will never update. I believe the records involved are Rookie BA and HR.

There's not a rookie ERA record.

And why exactly do you mention this?

they ought to design the game so you don't have to do this.

I disagree that they are not rookies. To me its the opposite. Every player is a rookie their first year. If Ichro can win Rookie of the year and sets a rookie record would they not give it to him. I mean you cant say a player is a rookie here but just not for records. Though i do agree people should make up their own minds. I am more concered about having record set that no one has a chance to break like say a bavg of .478 in 19th century.
I re sim any season in which the pitching has an era below 1.00
I just dont see modern pitchers having much of a chance to break that record.
Oh well to each its own because thats why we play the game.

The system needs to be setup that your first year in the majors is your rookie season. Even if that means the first season in a new league. The only way around this would be to say "rookies" must be younger than X. If you have a player that has toiled in the minors 'til 30 and then he gets called up, he's still a rookie.

I wish Markus would take MLB service time for fictional league players into account.

I also think they are NOT rookies becuase of a few things. Namely, they are more developed (Most rookies are not 5 star players and do not have full developed ratings). Secondly, for things like HRs and wins, a lot of rookies dont get a full season in the majors (there are obviously some that do, but most sit out atleast a month of the season in some form). So there are some unfair advantages.

But too each his own.
