Catobase: Importing Career Stats
Jeff, I still can't say how awesome this program is with words, though it always seems I come here with bugs/errors I find, I just want you to know what an awesome job you do, and I do these things to try and make this program even better.
With that said, I've noticed two little glitches when importing player's career stats. When you came out with, I think it was 5.3.3, you said whenever that you open an existing database in that version to make sure that we redid the career exporter. I did that and everything works great for all the players that are still in the league, i.e. all of their presim stats are imported just fine. However, players that are retired, only their simmed season stats are imported. For example, my sim started in 2001, and currently just finished the 2010 season. Maddux retired in 2006, so only his 2001-2006 stats were imported/exported on his player sheet. The other problem occurs when a player is missing a year of stats from a non-sim season. Granted this is pretty rare, but for example, Kerry Wood pitched in 1998, didn't pitch in 1999, but then started pitching again in 2000. Catobase imports all his stats from 2000 on, but misses his 1998 season. I have no idea if there is any way of fixing these very minor bugs, but if there is that'd be sweet. I know I can probably fix the retired players problem, by just starting over again importing with the first simmed season if I need to. Thanks again for all of your great work.

Don't worry about pointing out problems. If you don't, they won't get fixed.
Your explanation of the first problem, is totally accurate, and something I didn't consider. This could be fixed by using the career CSV files from the first year you imported into CatoBase instead of the ones for the current year. Say, your CatoBase goes from 2001-2009. When you finish 2010, create the CSV files like normal. But, before importing, copy the career CSV files from the 2001 season into the data folder. For this to work, though, you must have a copy of the database before the 5.3.2 update so that it can delete the career stats and then re-add them. I'll add an option to the next version to delete the career stats. That will allow you to re-add career stats at anytime. I should have done this to begin with, instead of forcing the deletion automatically. As for your second problem, I'll have to look into it. I can't think of why it would skip 1998. If the season is in the CSV file, it should be imported. |
