Invalid Player File

I was just playing in my solo league. the same one I've been using all year, and I'm in about my 25th season. I'd won my playoff series and was simming the other games when I get the 'OOTP has generated errors.. message'. I tried to get back in and I get the message, 'Invalid Player File', and my league won't load. What's up with that? How can I fix this?

I've looked through other threads and it looks like I'm screwed. Jesus, it doesn't take much to mess up a league, especially when it wasn't caused by any changes I made myself. That's pretty disconcerting.

I remember seeing a problem once that was caused by shutting down the game without properly exiting. The player wouldn't be able to get back into his game until he deleted some kind of a file. Was that an OOTP thing or am I thinking of something else? If so, what's the name of the file?

Files becoming corrupted or unable to be used can be caused by any number of issues, here is a short list:

-adding or removing other software on your PC.
-power surges.
-turning the PC off improperly.
-adding or removing hardware.
-a virus.
-a fragmented hard drive.
-having your PC lockup or freeze.
-improperly closing a program.
-hardware failure(that has either shown itself or maybe not yet).

Just to name a few. What caused your problem? I have no idea, it may have been OOTP or it may have been some other issue. One thing is for sure is that it is always a good idea to make regular backups of your league folder(s).

I made the assumption that it was OOTP5 which caused the problem because it was obviously a data error and OOTP5 was the only program accessing the hard drive at that time. It seemed like a reasonable assumption to me. I know before there was a problem in the past where if the program was exited in the wrong way, you would have to delete some type of initialization file to get back in. I was going to look into doing the same thing to fix this problem. That's what I was asking about in the second post.

This was a "general response" to the invalid player file topic that I had put together in the past and probably needs to be edited. Sorry about that.

The only way around this issue that I am aware of is if you have a backup copy of your league. Can't really go wrong making a copy of your league folder at crucial times(end of season, before playoffs, etc) just in case.

I was afraid of that... I was only nine games in to my first season but had already posted quite a bit in the dynasty forum (See: WIN AT ALL COSTS!)... Oh well, guess commissioner Bud Selig will have to declare a misdeal on the season and order a redo...
