The Uniform History League

The premise of this league will be what would history have been like if the league's statistics had very little fluctuation. What if there was no deadball era or liveball era? What if the entire history of baseball was somewhere in between? Who would the stars have been? Probably many of the same stars will exist in this universe. One of the many questions will be: how many HR would Nap Lajoie hit without the deadball?

Here are my goals:
Each season I am gonna have a target goal for league BA, 2B, 3B, HR, BB, and K. There will be some leeway as to how the stats end up as I don't want to sim seasons over and over. The key will be to get 1901 as close to the goals as possible and then adjust from there.

Target stats:
BA: Target: .260 **Acceptable Range: .245-.275
2B: Target: 3700 **Acceptable Range: 3300-4100
3B: Target: 800 **Acceptable Range: 700-900
HR: Target: 2400 **Acceptable Range: 2000-2800
BB: Target: 9500 **Acceptable Range: 8500-10500
K : Target: 12000 **Acceptable Range: 10500-13500

**I will give some leeway to some of the ranges if all the other stats are in line.

I will report to you individual stats, but they will have no bearing on me changing the League Settings, the only things I will be looking at is League Stats as a whole when adjusting settings.

Expansion: I don't know if I will be expanding at all come 1961. I may cut some players from draft pools to keep the teams somewhat in order.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to PM, IM, or e-mail me.

IM: woody062
E-mail: woody062@aol.com

Now to get 1901 in line I am sure it is going to take quite a few tries.

**Edit: I forgot to account for using a 162 game schedule, so I upped the target values ~5%.

These are the teams that will be in the league from 1901-2000:
AL:
New York Yankees(formerly Baltimore)
Boston Red Sox
Detroit Tigers
Chicago White Sox
Baltimore Orioles(formerly Milwaukee)
Cleveland Indians
Oakland A's(formerly Philadelphia)
Minnesota Twins(formerly Washington)

NL:
Chicago Cubs
San Francisco Giants(formerly New York)
Los Angeles Dodgers(formerly Brooklyn)
Cincinnati Reds
Atlanta Braves(formerly Boston)
Pittsburgh Pirates
Philadelphia Phillies
St. Louis Cardinals

Let me know if you think another of the current major league teams deserves a slot over one of the above.

Also I am using the same ERA settings through the entire history:
Bunting: Normal
Hit and Run: Normal
Pinch Hitting: Normal
Relievers: Normal
Endurance: Normal
Rotation Size: 4

None of those will change at all, so we will some early closers develop and some of the SPs in the future get some more starts then they really got.

Okay, I ran a fantasy draft just to even things out. Here are the first 2 rounds so you can a feel for where the major players are.

Round 1:
1. Chicago (N) pick: P Al Orth
2. Minnesota pick: 2B Nap Lajoie
3. Atlanta pick: P Christy Mathewson
4. New York pick: P Jesse Tannehill
5. Cincinnati pick: P Deacon Phillippe
6. Cleveland pick: P Vic Willis
7. Detroit pick: P James Callahan
8. Oakland pick: P Jack Chesbro
9. St. Louis pick: P Cy Young
10.Boston pick: P Noodles Hahn
11.Los Angeles pick: P Doc White
12.Chicago (A) pick: P Red Donahue
13.Philadelphia (N) pick: P Happy Townsend
14.San Francisco pick: P Bill Dinneen
15.Baltimore pick: P Eddie Plank
16.Pittsburgh pick: P George Winter

Round 2 :
17.Pittsburgh pick: LF Ed Delahanty
18.Baltimore pick: LF Jimmy Sheckard
19.San Francisco pick: SS Honus Wagner
20.Philadelphia (N) pick: LF Mike Donlin
21.Chicago (A) pick: P Earl Moore
22.Los Angeles pick: P Jack Powell
23.Boston pick: RF Elmer Flick
24.St. Louis pick: P Clark Griffith
25.Oakland pick: P Ned Garvin
26.Detroit pick: P Joseph Yeager
27.Cleveland pick: LF Jesse Burkett
28.Cincinnati pick: P Ed Doheny
29.New York pick: P Ted Lewis
30.Atlanta pick: RF Sam Crawford
31.Minnesota pick: P Bill Donovan
32.Chicago (N) pick: 3B John Mcgraw

Gotta love Mathewson and Crawford is you are a Braves fan I also added a couple of fictional players to each team for depth purposes. I don't think they will have much effect on the outcome of anything.

Update: I am currently on try #4 for evening out the league output, hopefully this one works. Try #2 had 3 guys reaching 70 HR with Buck Freeman finishing with 256 RBI.

Kid Nichols brought his A game to the park August 8th. He stepped to the plated in the fourth having not allowed an earned round on the day, he proceeded to club a homer. In the sixth he struck out the side and then followed it up with his 2nd HR of the day. In the 8th inning he stepped up with his team already leading 12-1 and clubbed his 3rd homer of the day. It is unfortunate that Kid Nichols game score couldn't be figured altogether(Pitching and Hitting) because it would have to be approaching 200.

Offseason Higlights

Fielder Jones signs with Minnesota
Jimmy Collins signs with Pittsburgh
Red Donhue signs with St. Louis(10,546,000X7years!!)
Addie Joss goes to Cleveland with #1 overall pick
George Mullin goes to NY Yankees with #2 overall pick.

That is pretty much all the highlights for the offseason as it was pretty uneventful.

Please let me know if there is anything that you think is lacking or that you would like to see and I will try to accomodate for 1902. I will probably post a condensed career leaders after every 5 or 10 years.

Very cool so far. I'm predicting that, with the modern settings, Ruth hits 1000 HR's!

Babe Ruth should put up some wild numbers at first. I am wondering what sort of numbers some of the other guys will put up before he even arrives. It should be interesting.

I should sim 1902 today, hopefully there won't any huge problems with the results, so I don't have to resim. I'll let you guys know.

Yeah, his 1923 season should be monstrous, considering how far ahead of the pack he was. Once he gets to 1928 and beyond, he'll settle down into the 70's in HR

With everything in line as far as homers for the league as a whole, I think it is possible that he could reach 100 HR, what does anyone else think. It will be fun once I get there. Maybe I will cut back some of the recaps and just pour out the league leaders and some of the individual performances so we can get some more history behind us quicker.

Also how often would you guys like to see the current career leaders? Every 5 years sound good? Or is 10 more sensible?

5 for me, because career leaders is one of my favorite aspects...

as for the Babe, it all depends, because when you import him, he'll come in as a SP and I don't think his HR ratings are too astronomical at that point...

5 is fine with me too....when it is all said and done...your career leader board at the end will be very interesting to look at.....tickles the "what-if?" side of my brain.

I predict the Babe will not hit 100 HR in a season....I'm going to say he'll set the record somewhere around 80-85....

I think will Babe will import twice. Once as a pitcher named George and then later as a hitter named Babe. I believe it happens at 1914 for SP and 1919 for OF. I am using Ankit's Database.

5 it is then. I will post the first set of career leaders after 1905. I wonder what the HR lead will be at that point. I am guess Sam Crawford at around 200.

Now on to 1902
